COURTESY GROT'S ADVICE.
The shopping list and army list below is "bare bones". This creates a nice Ork
list that can be competitive for the true new player without drowning them in a
thousand and one special rules or oddities. As the player becomes more familiar
with their greenskins, some of the wargear and vehicle options will become
available to them.
ITEM #1: Battleforce.
Includes 16 Boyz, 5 Bikes, 1 Buggy (Skorcha or KMB) & 1 Trukk.
ITEM #2: Space Ork Boyz box (x3).
Includes 48 Boyz.
ITEM #3: Ork Warboss Model.
ITEM #4: Nobz (x3) & Special Weapons Blisters.
Includes 3 Nobz, 2 Burnas, 2 Big Shootas & 2 Rokkitz.

Now this isn't the most competitive list out there, but the Ork player will
enjoy some success with it against fair opponents. You would not take this to a
tournament and expect to sweep the floor with everyone present. However, this
is, in my opinion, a wonderful base for any Ork army. The player is armed with
a decent core force of boyz (66) from which any larger army could be based.
More importantly, this is an affordable army. According to the GW online store,
this comes out to: $313 Canadian or $247 US. Better still, this is a very easy
army to put together and paint. There are no conversions and no large vehicles.
All of the metals are quite well known for being very easy to put together.
From this point, the new player could easily be encouraged to start expanding
the list. Some easy points would be:
Nob Retinue + Wartrukk.
Specialist Unit (Ard Boy, Burna Boy or Tankbustas).
Dreadnought or Killer Kanz.
Big Gun Mob.
Looted Vehicle.
These units all cost about the same as any one squad in the above list allowing
for easy substitution. If they don't care for the Shoota Boyz, it could easily
be swapped for an Ard Boy mob, for example. It gives the player some choice and
an easy transition to slowly build a fantastic force.
