Hi guys!

I am new in the forum and new to the orks in general.
When 8th edition 40k dropped i found myself wanting to play something different than the usual imperium armies, I tried with inquisition and 'umies but, even if i still have them, I wanted something different. Then I saw my old fantasy orcs and goblins and I heard the whispers of orkimedes in my mind.

So i am building my Orks army with a basis of my fantasy models + some scratch build vehicles and stuff with old toys and a random assort of bits, to make them a Snakebites army.

So far I have:

1 Warboss

1 Weidboy

1 Nob with Waaagh! Banner

1 Runtherd

31 different grots

10 40k orks that will be Kommandos

30 Boyz with shootas and 'eavy shootas

30 Boyz with sluggas and choppas

6 Boar Boyz (count as bikers)

2 Buggies made from Boar and wolves chariots

1 Lobba

1 Zzap gun

1 Kannon

+ a bunch of gobbos, trolls and wolves that I don't know how to use

Since most of the minis are unprimed, I don't have many pics of my army.
However I will update this thread whene ever I get some work done.
Here is what i have been painting so far (still wip) + some primed minis to show the conversions.

I hope you like them.

Welcome to da Waaagh!, like the colour palette you've used and the stripy paint on the orks skins, those gobbos are a pain to pose though :lol

Thank you mate!
Yes, night gobbos are a pain since they are from the battle of skull pass. I've found that the ones with the bow are the easiest, but the spear ones are what have got me thinking...
Those and the river trolls.
I went with strippy skin because I am painting these when resting from work and i don't know how else to do highlights (i tried blending but it looked weird XD)

probably it was some problem with my server/ruter or whatever. Now I see the pics.

Interesting conversions.

I see the ork with pink mouth first time - ingenious idea.

thank you mate :)

I am trying to do them a bit different to the usual with details like those as much as i can.

I spent most of yesterday painting a nob with waaagh! banner, 4 boyz with shootas, a boy with 'eavy shoota and my warboss. Now I only have to start highlighting, paint the cape of the warboss, do the banner and painting the tattoos of all. I might upload some pics today.

Cheers!

I would base those charriots on oval bases. There are plenty of resellers/manufacturers on ebay.

Welcome to Da WAAAGH forums! Great group of people here, very supportive and encouraging - and TALENTED folks here, as you're demonstrating.

This is  a very fun project!  I've got about 100 night gobbos myself that I want to use as gretchin, but I've avoided it so far preciously because of the PITA it'll be to convert them.  I'll be interested to see what you come up with, and may end up looting your idea!

Keep it up!

Thanks for your comments guys!I'm

sorry I haven't answerd earlier but I have been busy (and last week i traded some stuff and got some pansy space elves and they distract me with their curves and colors XD)

But because today is Orktober 1st I thought I might share pics of what I have advanced on my ork mob. its a wip because everything is just basecoat + shades, so still a lot of work to be done!

First my Warboss.

22141124_10155067576454150_4060844051086

I still have to paint some checkers and triangles on him as well as painting the cape. But I really don't know which colour to use on it. ¿any ideas?

Nob with Waaagh! Banner

22154425_10155067577844150_4462900416456

I have to built something for his left hand kustom shoota (I kept the handle of the choppa to use as the handle of the shooty weapon), as well as paint the banner and checkers on his armour.

Boy with 'eavy shoota

22221527_10155067576119150_7008196779177

I have to make the flames on the big gun better and see how can I fix the cut on the left hand.

Boy with shoota #1

22050137_10155067575454150_3227513830607

Still have to finish the tartan and retouch the checkers on his helmet

Boy with shoota #2

22141101_10155067577569150_4470605950789

Have to fix the right hand, maybe sculpt something (any sugestions?) also paint some checkers on his helmet.

Boy with shoota #3

22090077_10155067575639150_8997170165547

Fix the cut on the left hand and finish the tartan. Maybe paint something on his back.

Boy with shoota #4

I have to fix the cut on the right hand and finish the tartan.

Night Grot

22090073_10155067577714150_2257867297863

I really love how this grot ended up. I used a night gobbo with bow, cut the bow and the arrows and glued an old bolt pistol. I left the carcaj (the thingie in which you store arrows) to use as some sort of bag for him.

I don't know what else to paint on him. ¿Any ideas?

As a bonus for Orktober 1st I buit this... thing... maybe I'll use it as a buggy, only controlled by a grot and some snots instead of an ork.

22154287_10155067575224150_5102960164432

oh as for the oval bases on the big gunz, I built them like that in order to store them easily like this. But I do reckon that they look kinda bad without the base decorated with sand and stuff.

22195389_10155067576039150_8540292436361

Cheers and happy month of gork! (or was it mork?)

Any ideas lads?

I'd suggest that the main problem isn't so much the base as the physical size of the model - head is fine but the torso is a bit short as are the legs. I think that when I used some black orcs for 'ard boyz (a while ago, back when 'ard boyz were a thing http://www.the-waaag...c=52648&page=1#) I extended the legs with bits of sprue stuck above and below the knee armour and blended into the shin and thigh armour. This was mainly ok for boyz but for a big mek or a nob I'd probably have inserted a bit more sprue between the waist and the torso to jack the body height a bit more in keeping with the size of the head, only talking about adding an extra 1/4" or so to the overall height of the figure (roughly what the base has added) but if you did that then you might find that you don't need to do that much to the base anyway :?

Thanks mate!
I don't really want to make them bigger because I want to keep my old warboss as the biggest one (and, if i didn't measure wrong, that added height would make the mek as tall as my warboss), so I will keep it as is right now. But it is a neat idea to make gits look bigger and stronger.

Here is the warboss I mention. Since it's made of a solid block of pewter its kinda hard to convert using your idea :/

I tried to finish him before orktober ended (in fact I finished it on the night of the 31 XD) but I copuldn't finish the boys and the banner bearer too :/
well, bit by bit the orkses go waaagh! I guess.

Ahh! I see your problem now (I only backtracked to the boyz that you'd done using 'modern' plastics and was comparing the mek to them :blush ). I can also see why you'd be a bit reluctant to start carving your warboss up now as well :lol

Nice job on the paint :thumbs

Thank you mate.
It is literally a block of pewter xD
So it is quite difficult for me to carve into it
