:crybaby This game is great. I just wish there was more support from gamesworkshop (not even more model support, just some advertising in white dwarf or anything to get more people to play it) it really is close to me which is my favorite 40k or epic. they are both really awesome. you cant tell me being able to send 6 fighta bombas off to bomb a great gargant and on the way they get countered by more fighta bombas so u send in your fleet of AA guns to shoot em down doesnt sound completely bad ass. please...people...realize how awesome this game is and start joining in on this fun. the options for orks in epic are limit less. so convert up some tanks or scratch build an entire army, field a gargant mob or a huge fleet of planes and join epic and help green win over the galaxy!!!!! Yeah Epic has really fallen off the map. When I took a break from gaming in Warhammer universe back around '96, Epic was the most popular GW game played in my area. That being said, the current state of Epic is really dissapointing to see because GW absolutely screwed up a golden opportunity. While I have read/heard that the release of Epic 40K with it's base changes, model changes, rules changes, and further reductions of the army boxes (i.e. greed), destroyed the game, I don't think it is beyond bringing back. There are still plenty of players who like the 40K theme and want larger, more tactically interesting games than what can be found in the current 28mm rules. One of the biggest obstacles I see to making Epic viable again is that the uniqueness of the game has now been diluted. Apocalypse 40K has really taken the "cutting edge" feel right out of Epic. Titans, Super-heavies, and loads of armored vehicles that were almost exclusively found in the Epic universe are now being plopped onto the 28mm battlefield via Apoc. That was one of the big draws for the game aside from the massive scale battles you could run. Another thing that hurts the potential growth of Epic is that the available models are prohibitively overpriced. It's difficult to bring in new players when you need to hope they land a "deal" on eBay just to get into the game. Without an introductory set ala AoBR, this game will stay firmly in retirement...err with Specialist games. :rolleyes The only way I now see Epic getting any advertising time is if FW puts more time into the line. The marketing rag that WD became really has no space or reason to promote Epic.

All I can say is that here in Belgium, Epic is having a bit of a second life... The spark has struck again. Per year, we have at least three tournies (i.e. at least one tournie per Epic-players-club) Next weekend, on the biggest figurine-fair of mainland Europe, 2 of those clubs are 'banding together' to do a demo-game of a huuuuuge Epic Armageddon battle. In France, the community is very much alive too, even to such an extent they were unhappy with the speed the ERC (Epic Rules Committe) churns out updates for the living rulebook, that they now have their own adapted armylists, thorougly tested by loads of players, and those armylists are updated each and every year. Main objectives to keep in mind for those armylists : keep it inline with the fluff, make units seldomly used (Ork Buggies for instance) more attractive and keep the whole thing balanced. This also means some units are downgraded, of course. In the light of an international Tournie my club is organising (up until now, people from France, Germany, Holland and Belgium (duh) have registered) I have set myself to translating (together with a couple of other guys, of course) these lists into english. We will of course also bring these lists to the attention of the ERC, see what they think, but we've still got to proofread them. So nope, na-ah, Epic is not dead at all, you just gotta ignite the spark, and you'd be amazed how many people will follow. I actually had a fellow-commuter, whom I did not know adress me on the train asking why I was reading the Epic Armageddon rulebook on the train, surely it wasn't played anymore? I replied that I was refreshing my memory for the Tournie of that weekend... guess who joined the tournie (after not having played the game for several years) :biggrin As for trying to " land a "deal" on eBay", ask Zog. In about one or two weeks notice, he bought himself an army of almost each race on Ebay (I think fish'ead excluded) for next to nothing if you compare it to the rediculous prices GWS asks (I mean, 15 fer a GunFortress :eek ) My 7-8K of painted Orks have not cost me more than 25 in total, and counting the unpainted figs, I should be at least at the 12K mark. The biggest investment I did in this game was buying the rulebook :lol And a small defence of GWS, even though they do not promote it openly (GWS Southern Europe's even got a policy taht you cannot play EPic in the store), organise a tournie, and tell them about it... you'd be amazed at the number of goodies they send over fer free to hand out as prizes.
Roight, any questions?
Yes?
Too bad!
It be time to WAAAGH!

As with everything, location is key!

I've had no luck stirring interest in EA locally, but it's great to hear that the game is thriving is some areas. Now if we could only work out some tectonic mojo and shift California a bit closer to Europe. :)

Now that's impressive! For GW to send out freebies in support of your tournies is pleasantly surprising, especially if they (oddly) aren't letting you play in their stores.

With FW having some Epic models in production, I've wondered why they don't just take it over completely. I'm sure they are stretched thin on resources/time like GW is, but they seemingly could offer the range more and hopefully stir interest with new model releases & books.

Maybe you could try Zogs' scheme?

As he wanted to play, but no-one was interested, he bought himself multiple smaller armies, is busy mpainting them up and will let visitors/people at his club play with them.

Possibly, doing just that, he could kick up quite an interest in his area!

I've recently acquired a small Beakie army from Zog, which 'll allow me to give demo-games to my closest friends who at the moment do not want to start yet another game.
Now I'm hoping that letting them play da Beakies will rouse their interest, thus spreading the microbe :biggrin

The "Zog Method™" sounds worth trying and is not a half-bad idea. After the next round of Ork releases I'll see what can be cheaply rounded up off eBay. Beakies might be a good one as I saved a few Warlords, Warhounds, & Land Raiders. I'm still kicking myself for dumping some rather large armies I inherited of Chaos, 'umie, panzee, & Squats a few years back. 20/20 hindsight is a killer, but at least I didn't toss the Orks in too! :)

Who's talking about me? Yeah i have a few armies... just a few. I think for 100 i bought about 8-10K worth of Orks about the same in Beekies about 6-8K of Panzies, about 2-3k of nids. 2-3k of feral Orks. My mate Rob is so Impressed he is starting an Epic Tin-head army. and with some of the panzee I'm gonna make up a Dark-panzee army. the rules are out there ;) Its not location thats the key its enthusiasm. Your enthusiasm and what you get across to the potential opponent you are telling all about it. Oh and its all Quase's fault ;) I got back into 40K through Sp.ace.mar.ine. after a break and he's rekindled my interest. >: But I'm loving it :D :cheers

Just curious, were you planning on using the tin'ead's & DE lists out of Epic Raiders? I was really impressed with that publication.

Hi, Here everybody is playing warmachine after abandoning 40k. I just got hooked to Epic, and will take this idea and expand it, building two armies (orks and chaose), so that I can bring them and play with other people hooking them in the process to epic as well :thumbs Eyal.

Nids unfortunately had a shorter production run than most Epic models and their initial release with Hive War didn't come until '95. Heck, I remember having trouble finding Epic Nids in stores even when they weren't oop.

'umie seem pricy too for some odd reason. Maybe the popularity of FW models has rubbed off on people. :)

the problem here in the US... especially in the money states such as cali is that bigger is better... people want to show off their brand new titan they bought and prolly got someone else to paint spiffily(BIG problem in the east... glad I'm not there anymore). Epic is really small scale models that while cheap as hell to mold, they won't do much of anything for them due to the overwhelming 'bigger is better' rule.

You want a simple answer? It's one of the so-called "Specialist Games" which over the years has been totally ignored by GW who now only focus on 40k, WFB and LotR. Finding opponents is difficult. Which makes me think, perhaps we should have a sticky thread here to find opponents. :)
