Oi!

Hey guys! My Black Reach... reached me yesterday. I also had the pleasure of trading off the weedy Beakies for more proppa Orks - huzzah! As an added bonus I also got myself a Loota kit. Since then I've been friously cutting/filing/gluing and thinking up cool conversions. I think of myself as a decent convertor, so I decided to start this topic to show off some of my ideas for Da Ork Projekt.

First off, the Deffkoptas.

The models are nice, they really are. But I've been agonizing over the decision whether or not to field them alongside my horde of footsloggin' Boyz for a long time now, and I've came to the following conclusion: screw the koptas, I'm taking Bikerz!

So I got myself six spare koptas. What I'm going to do with them you ask? Why, chop 'em up, naturally!

I hacked and trimmed off most of the flying gubbinz, leaving this:

Posted Image

It's still a WIP, unless you noticed ;) It was more of a test run really - I needed to check if my kunnin' plan can actually work. It did. So I decided to try something more ambitious - a Nob.

Posted Image
Making the handlebar and arm was easier than I thought - the bigger Kopta arms look good on a Nob and all I had to do was exend the bar with some spare plastic rod (a WFB Orc spear to be precise) and put a pin through all the parts.

Posted Image
"Oi! Where'z me Power Klaw?"

Posted Image
Back detail. Silky smooth, at least until I find the right wheel.

Posted Image
Lower detail. The Nob torso actually fits quite nice (after hackin' the lowe part of course) on the stock Kopta legs. A bit of green stuff will hide the joint nicely.

As you can see, I also trimmed down the rokkits - i plan on having nice quad-mounted Dakkaguns in their place. They still need lots of green stuff to take care of the mess I made, and more importantly, wheelz. If I can spare some time tomorrow, I'll raid the basement for some of my old toys and Legos and see if I can find some wheels/tracks. Also tomorrow I'll pick up a couple of Boyz sprues for the important bitz (can you say DAKKA?)

They're still in the rough stage, but you get the idea.

In between sawing Koptas, I've put together some sluggas (standard kit, nothing fun to show) and big shootas. I must say, the AoBR big shoota orks are ugly. Really ugly. So I've decided to konvert mine so that I can actually bear their sight. Pictures to follow another time (propably tomorrow)

I've also constructed the Warboss. I wanted to personalize the model, since I reckon we'll be seeing a LOT of stock AoBR Bosses around. But when I've put my hands on the model I was breathless. Seb Perbet did an amazing job on it, so I let it be. It's just too cool to hack apart, if you ask me. I settled on a simple head swap (mainly coz I love Iron Gobs!) and made him a Kombi-Skorcha. Still needs some green stuff work on his neck.

"Whatcha gonna do when we'z kome fer you?"

Skorchy!

More pictures of uvver stuff to follow. Stay tuned. If all goes well, in a few days you'll see (amongst others) a full-plastic kitbashed Shokk Attack Gun Mek.

Of course all my topics are pic heavy, you know why? because people don't want to open 12 hyperlinks a page! it stands to reason

Your nob biker's coming along nicely. :thumbs I was waiting to see who'd be the first to hack-up their koptas, I expect we'll see alot of these conversions soon and I plan to try it. How are you planning on attaching the wheels and are you going for a standard 2 wheeler? I think that one large wheel at the back and 2 smaller ones at the front might work. Looking forward to seeing more. :cheers

Oi! Thanks guys! Gaf-Naz: This largely depends on the wheelz I'll be able to scavenge. I'd really like to make tracks for the rear of the Nob bike. I don't have an idea yet as to how to get some cheaply, and I don't feel that good with my plasticard skills to scratchbuild 'em, so I guess I should sit down and start brainstorimng. Nkelsh: Yeah, but I'm not fond of buying the whole Trukk kit for the wheelz... And unfortunately Poland has only one online bitz store, and it doesn't stock Trukk parts. Ack! I could order from the US or something, but it's not really cost-effective, plus as I mentioned in some other threads, Polish postmen have an awful tendency for defrauding packages (especially oversea ones).

Just saw one slight miscalc. The pipe from the flamer APPEARS, so might not actually be, but yeah it looks to be in the way of the barrel of the shoota. Glad to see someone with a bit of confidence in their converting skillz, generally helps. The head suits the boss well.

Oi! Indeed it is a bit in the way. But I drilled the shoota barrel so that it's only about 0,5mm. I actually noticed that after I glued the burna, but didn't want to reposition it (plus there's not much space left to do so, other than to flip the nozzle upside down, which I wasn't really keen on) so just said 'ohwhaddahell' and let it be. I'll think about it, I can always cut off the cable and leave only the nozzle do-hikey. I guess can always justify it narratively. The great Warboss Krolork Gitstompa once lost his lower jaw in a promethium explosion due to firing a badly constructed kombi-skorcha. However, the new shiney gob he got bioniked in didn't made him better at accumulating knowledge from past experiences. Not at all. He still buys dakka from the same Mek. He still doesn't use brakes in his Battlewagon, as a side note. :lol

This is a really great idea. Though the kopta bodies seem at odd angles for the forks & rear suspension I do like where you're going. Turning the warboss' head & the head swap were pretty quick thinkin too. Good luck w/ the rest.

Hey, our Plastic Warbosses are twins! :lol I love that Iron Gob they put on the Black Reach sprue, it's like the GorkaMorka Nob's iron gob but twice as huge.

That Deffkoptabike is starting to look proper so far as well. Quite a drastic conversion but it's looks like it'll be a very convincing bike once you're done. :)

Get some cheap toy cars/trucks at the local toy store and rip their wheels off. A lot of those toys have wheels that are perfect for Orky vehicle conversions. :thumbs

I guess in the battle and thw wind etc, the pipe of the burna would probably blow out of the way anyway, so it should be alright.

Oi!

Update guys! Pictures galore!

I had a problem with bases. Namely, I couldn't decide whether to make urban bases or desert ones. However, when I saw some GaleForce 9 urban basing kits sitting around my FLGS all cheap-like, I was sold. I'm telling you this since I think it ties well in how I model my kommandos (see below)

The firsk Deffwarbike is pretty much done. Still needs some green stuff (let's get it straight: all of my builds need gs work. The reason I leave them like that and move to others is because I want to do all the green stuff work in one go. Hence, I won't be repeating myself about the green stuff when I'm talking about every model. Just assume everything I show you here will have some green blobs on 'em some time in the future to hide the gaps/clear the mess) and some random bits and bobs but it's kinda it. I had some problems getting right sized wheels for this guy, hence I'm not sure how the front one looks - suggestions/comments?

Da Deffwarbiker Nob is also nearing completion. He turned out a bit big - I think with a bigshoota stuck on the back he could pass as a Wartrak... But well, "Big iz best!" :thumbs

Engine block detail.

Posted Image
I wanted to model him as if he's pointing the klaw growling "Yer next!", but it ended up more like he's trying to tickle someone... Oh well, I guess being tickled by six-and-a-half feet, speed-addicted loonie with a huge powered blade still hurts.

Posted Image

Here's a pair of Nobz for my slugga mobz, not too fancy:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Now some introduction for my Kommandos.

I've decided to model them in plastic (I dislike metal model, I want my whole army to be plastic), and I set three basic principles for modelling 'em:

1. Want 'em to look militaristic and uniformed (not too much though, they're still Orks!)
2. Want 'em to look sneaky.
3. Want 'em to be loaded with gear.
4. Want every 'un of 'em look a little different and characterful, think of orkified Last Chancers.

(Okay, that's four, so sue me :P )

[I got a message that I posted more pics than I'm allowed to... Strange, since I host 'em on my private server. So I've put the rest of the update in a second post. If I broke some rules in doing so, please point it out and I'll hold my horses]

Oi!

I did the Nob first, and a theme for the mob intantly popped into my mind.

Posted Image

As you can see, Serjunt Steelgut is posed as if he had stopped in half a step, raised his Klaw in a sign to the boyz behind him and sneered "Quiet ya lot, I heard sumfin".

So I decided to model the mob accordingly. IE, as if they've just stopped what they're doing, drew their gunz and started looking around. I decided to glue them with helmeted heads (mostly - see below) - both uniformed and militaristic like. They also have silencers (or 'silensurz') on their weapons for that sneaky look (will also be getting kammuflage naturally). I'm currently waiting for a package from Allegro (our local Polish Ebay) with Cadian bits for that extra gear for them. Okay, no further ado, let the sexy pictures commence:

Posted Image
Meet Smiley the Trapper. I wanted him to look like a half-savage tracker type. He was just kneeling and lying a sneaky trap when the Boss sneered, so he quickly drew his knife and turned.

Posted Image

Posted Image
Harry the Bommer. He depicts the Stikkbommz the mob carries.

Posted Image
Larry the Sluggafreek. Two silenced sluggas = one silenced shoota.

Posted Image
Sally the Sniper. Like how the gun wound up, but the shoulders are a little awkward, need to fix 'em.

I also built two Burnas, but they're standard kit, nothing fancy. I'm slowly running out of ideas for characterful Kommandos, so don't hesitate to brainstorm (I want a 10-strong mob)

Last but not the least, my Shokk Attack Gun Big Mek. Okay, I'm not yammering any more, let the pics speak for him:

I like the idea of modelling your kommandos like they're responding to the nob's command. :thumbs

Some more specialists could be: medic, assassin (knife man), communications, quartermaster (supplies), engineer, 2nd in kommand etc... I did a kommando grot team of specialists - pics here if you want some more ideas.

I like your SAG too. The spinny bitz could do with a bit more gubbinization though - maybe wrap wire around the prongs that support the balls and add a more interesting shooty bit to the tip of the barrel? I think a small russ wheel would fit the end of the 'hoover' attachment too - giving it a more 'sucky' feel. ;)

The first bike looks good - I like the big/little wheel combination. Not to sure about the little front wheel on the Nob's bike though - I think 2 small front wheels would look better and fit with the trakks on the back.

Keep up the good work. :cheers
