I was fiddling with the points in the end and I decided to get myself 2 more Fanatics for the 50 strong units. However I am unsure if that is the right choice, maybe I should get more Night Goblin instead and make one unit 40 strong making my army 288 models. I have also been thinking that it might be a good idea to get some archers.

As all was complete I had five points left over which I used to purchase light armor for my Big Boss and Warboss. Though that may not be all that good investement what i really would have prefered would have been to purchase another Magic Mushroom for my Level 1 Shaman.

All feedback appreciated.

Hi there, I've been running night goblins for a while now too and have got a few 8th ed games under my belt now. I've only played around 1500-1750pts regularly so any advice I can offer you is tempered by that. I think that you have quite a good selection of rank and file to specialist units, but I'd be a bit wary about running your general and battle standard on great squigs*, the experiences I had doing just that were quite bad, they get shot down or swamped far too easily. Running a distracting hero or two on great squigs however I've found is quite effective, especially with the Brimstone Bauble to cause more damage upon death, or the Collar of Zorga to tie up a monster for a turn or two so you can deal with it on your terms. Maximum Fanatic Loadout is frankly a great way to run night goblins, but there are a few things to keep in mind: Watch out for any unit that can make vanguard movement (fast cav etc) that could potentially set off your fanatics before the game is even underway which pretty much stifles any plan you have of using them or even moving for a few turns, it can be a game loser right there. Set up your fanatic loaded units quite far back on your lines and screen with other units along your maximum deployment line. Take a couple of cheap heroes to accept challenges on the generals behalf*, they don't need to be loaded out, basic armour and weaponry will do. (*it saves you needlesly handing your opponent easy victory points) Shamans are a good buy, I try to have at least 2-3 low level ones in an army, and shrooms are an absolute blessing. I don't take nets, but that's a personal choice, I can see their uses but I forget I've taken them in every game I do (stupid :bleep memory failure). I haven't had any experience of snotlings or pump wagons yet, but I ran a giant in a couple of games recently for the first time and he was worth every point, he was a missile fire and magic magnet which meant that the rest of the army went relitively unscathed. Giving your battle standard bearer the spider banner or the terror causing banner (from the core book, name escapes me right now) works really well. When writing my lists I keep referring to these pointers I jotted down from game to game whilst polishing out my force selection. Psychology will be the main issue, I keep my Warboss and battle standard bearer in my main infantry block to cover all surrounding units that need their boost, I've had a fair bit of success running a 60 block horde of spear armed night goblins. - A big central block of night goblins with 2-4 supporting smaller units is a great backbone - always take the max amount of fanatics I can get into my list - When choosing command a musician in every unit is my primary choice followed by standards - try to attack in waves: Sguigs, squig hoppers and Great squig mounted heroes barrel forward, tie up flanking units and cause as much of a mess as possible. Then the enemy has to weather a storm of fanatics afterwards to even get at your troops. Well that's my 2 pence worth, use or ignore what you will. :thumbs Good luck running the Night Goblins, they're tricky to run right, but when they work it's spectacular. :cheers Badgof

Thank you for your advice, much appreciated. I noticed that the common armysize for 8th edition have been increased to 2500 points so I will add some models and reorganize taking your advice into consideration.

After the introduction of 8th edition I remade my army to accomodate 2500 points instead of 2250 points.

I do want my characters riding great cave squigs and furthermore I added a musician to the group of characters to give them the feel of a complete command. Obviously I had to take the Pipes of Doom for the musician, after all, I am all about Night Goblins. I do not expect it to do much or anything at all but it is darn fun model and I will get a good laugh when the opponent's dragon fly of the battlefield once in a while. My characters may not be the most effective actually probably the opposite. However I rather have them crazy and characterful instead of being cookie-cutters. I play Night Goblins not to win but because they are such wonderfully crazy Shroom 'eads.

With the rest of the points after adding another Night Goblin Big Boss to the group of characters I decided to bump my units of Squig Herders to 25 each from 15. I like that there is now a kind of symmetry within my rank and file units in that they are all 5 ranks deep. Probably going to make my squig hammer survive better as well. In the end the army ended up with 271 models. I could of course have gone with more Night Goblins instead of an additional character and more squigs and have an army with over 300 models strong but I thought I had enough normal Night Goblins already.
