Time fer all dem Noo Yearz Rezolu- resol- ah... Noo threats!!!

This link will get you into the archive of old threads:
http://www.the-waaag...showtopic=53073

And for those who've never done this, here's da rulez as they originally appeared:

Borrowing an idea from the Privateer Press forums, the Waaagh is now doing a regular monthly painting challenge. I am officially administering it, but also participating in it myself. The idea is, you make a promise to paint and/or build a given number of models at the beginning of the month, and then report back both on your progress and if and when you manage to complete it. Since Orks don't really make vows, they make threats that are usually carried out, we're going to call this your "Painting Threat" --just don't make it a bluff!                        ;)

So here we go...
The Ground Rulez:

  • Painting threats will be frozen 10 days after the start of the challenge. There is no changing of *any* threat after day 10. Say what you'll paint, then paint what you say. If you don't already own the models you want to paint, I suggest not making the threat until you do. Painting
Threats are still accepted after the 10th, but they can not be changed once made.
  • When you finish your threat you will be rewarded by the greening of your name on the Threat List. You can then go on to add Bonus Threats and look really impressive. However, you can not be greened before the locking of the Threats on the 10th. Any additions to your threat made before the 10th go onto your initial threat and will not count as Bonus Threats.
  • This is more of a request than a rule. *Please* post work in progress pics if you possibly can. One of the best things about the thread is watching stuff come together. It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however. Feel free to make separate posts, and then link into this thread so that others can comment directly in your own thread.
  • :soap We need to know unit sizes when you post your Painting Threat.                        :soap

FAQ
Q: Do I have to do Orks or GW Figs only?

A: No, not really. There isn't anything stopping you from doing so, but seeing as this the Waaagh, I think most of us would prefer to see Proppa Ork modelz, and not some weedy panzee piece, or even a more semi-proppa Khadorian Behemoth                        ;) After all, we have new models out there to paint! However, if you do decide to paint something that is of non-Orky nature, any pictures that you post must link to your pictures off-site, or make a thread in the Fungus Beer House.

Q: I need to change my Painting Threat!
A: You have until Day 10 of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honour system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.
Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal... We'll do one of these close to the beginning of every month... we've now done it for more than three years.
Q: Hey, what if we finish our vow but decide to paint more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's kind of weedy to make a painting threat with a 75% painted unit at the start of the month... as guilty as I am of this myself!                        :blush
Q. I've not made my threats for the past two months, should I still enter?
A. You bet! The idea behind a painting threat is to develop some discipline as to what you're going to build or paint. Part of the challenge is to learn what you can complete within a given month, and what you can't. If you find you're not making your threat for the month, then reduce the size of it. Don't bite off more than you can chew... take it in smaller chunks. If you manage to finish your threat early, then get working on the next lot!                        :)

Q. What if I get my threat done early?
A: WeIl, if you get it done early, you can try to make a Bonus Threat where you can add an additional threat only after the existing work is completed. No bonus prizes, but you will get the respect of everybody. Additionally, this can be a way to make sure you don't over-threaten
earlier in the month.                        :)

Right... now that you've got it, get to it lads!!                        :whip

I have bunch of bases to paint, should be easy as I do them in batches. Quick roll-call, mostly have them ready to paint:

Dark Angels stuff:

  • 15 x 25mm "Green Marble" bases for Dark Angels Scouts
  • 90 x 32mm "White Marble" bases for Dark Angels Greenwing.
  • 45 x 40mm "Black Marble" bases for Dark Angels Deathwing.
  • 6 x 60mm bases for Contemptors/Dreadnoughts

Orks stuff:

  • 45 x 25mm "Metal&Junk" bases for Grots
  • 140 x 25 "Cracked Earth" bases for regular Boyz
  • 40 x "Cracked Stone" bases for Ork Specialists (Tankbustas, Kommandos etc)

Bonus:

  • Tutorials for each base type.
  • Bag of Foliage - already done with dyeing green and preserving lichen with glycerine, but they'll go on Ork bases after I attach Boyz. I may make batch(es) in other colors such as orange and purple, if I can find some plants.
  • 25mm "Ammo Pile" bases for dakka Orks (I guess 30 should be enough, don't plan to have more than 2 full squads of Lootas.
  • 60mm bases with slot for regular 25mm base (for Heavy Weapons Teams, probably 10 or so), probably gonna go with industrial ruins theme

As You can see I try to put each model type on different bases, tho with one consistent theme - stone slabs for Beakies and classic desert planet for Orks. I decided to make more bases than I need (except for Boyz, IMHO 140 with 12 Nobz and 14 Heavy Weapons seem more than enough) so I can have spares for future projects.

Got some pictures for bases here:

**EDIT** Ok, so I'm changing my threat already!  Instead of getting my meganobz done first, I've decided to threaten to strip, rebuild and repaint the first 10 boyz of my new Waaagh!  The 5 meganobz I was originally going to do will be stripped and 4 of them will be rebuilt (also part of my threat).  The 5th is waiting for some extra bits to convert him into a dual killsaw boss nob  :thumbs  WIP thread HERE

Threat summary:

Strip, rebuild and paint 10 boyz

Strip 5 meganobz

Rebuild 4 meganobz

**End Threat, Begin Short Ramble**

I've decided to go Goffs with lots of red bitz, they will one day be run as more of a kult of speed type list and I feel it's appropriate for them to wear some fasta colours on top of the traditional black with checks.  They're starting out as a footslogging horde because I feel that in low point games a kult of speed just won't give me nearly enough minis on the board.  Even in big games I'll probably still keep at least a couple of big blobs of footsloggers.

I found this pic (painted by Sigur on Tale of Painters) which I'll use as inspiration, though I think I'll go with a bit less red on the bulk of the boyz and save that to make the bosses stand out a bit more (with the exception of the meganobz, who will never go fasta no matter wot colour ya paint 'em, they'll be much more tradishunul black and white).

test1.jpg

My Waaagh! is gonna be a very slow grow for now as Ive got lots of other minis to build and paint for an upcoming NCE Necromunda weekend (if theres anyone in Melbourne who plays NCE/ORB/LRB Necromunda please contact me if youd be interested in joining in, oh and there will be GoMo too).

Back to Daemons/Chaos for both AoS and 40K this year.  For Noo Year I threaten to:

Paint:

1 Herald of Nurgle

1 Gaunt Summoner

1 Ogroid Thaumaturge

It's been too cold to work in the basement even with a heater so no build threat this month despite needing to get stuff assembled for this expansion.

Color me green!

Paint:

1 Herald of Nurgle - Done.

1 Gaunt Summoner - Done.

1 Ogroid Thaumaturge - Done.

For the rest of the month I am going to attempt to clear out a few models that have been lingering in a partially painted state for years gathering dust.  For Orkuary I will be painting up a squad of Plaguebearers for this Herald to lead.

Hi!

My account got wrecked by spambots (somehow), but I'm still alive. Couldn't post "update" before 10th, I think I'll forgo painting "rocky" bases yet, as I haven't got bits yet (I'm press moulding ork and human skulls/bones, ammo cases etc), so it's only gluing cork at this point (I may prime them tho). Also gonna move 60mm walker bases to "bonus", should have 60mm HDF circles cut at least...

The rest would hopefully go as planned. The final list is updated then:

I have bunch of bases to paint, should be easy as I do them in batches. Quick roll-call, mostly have them ready to paint:

Dark Angels stuff:

  • 15 x 25mm "Green Marble" bases for Dark Angels Scouts
  • 90 x 32mm "White Marble" bases for Dark Angels Greenwing.
  • 45 x 40mm "Black Marble" bases for Dark Angels Deathwing.

Orks stuff:

  • 45 x 25mm "Metal&Junk" bases for Grots
  • 140 x 25 "Cracked Earth" bases for regular Boyz <only glue cork
  • 40 x "Cracked Stone" bases for Ork Specialists (Tankbustas, Kommandos etc) <only glue cork

Bonus:

  • Tutorials for each base type.
  • Bag of Foliage - already done with dyeing green and preserving lichen with glycerine, but they'll go on Ork bases after I attach Boyz. I may make batch(es) in other colors such as orange and purple, if I can find some plants. < there is about 200mm of snow, so not gonna look for more :(
  • 25mm "Ammo Pile" bases for dakka Orks (I guess 30 should be enough, don't plan to have more than 2 full squads of Lootas.
  • 60mm bases with slot for regular 25mm base (for Heavy Weapons Teams, probably 10 or so), probably gonna go with industrial ruins theme
  • 6 x 60mm bases for Contemptors/Dreadnoughts

That shoota is one of the Kromlech ones, I think usually comes with their greatcoat orks, but can also be bought separately.  The dude leaning in for a shoulder bump is still exactly as I assembled him when I was about 14 :P  He looks much better with a cleanup and a repaint but that one was a standout awesome pose amoung my old mobs of boyz :D

And here are the four Meganobz:

They're not actually technically finished, still need a bit of greenstuff work.  I will do that today though and post some shots of them primed and ready to paint by the end of the month  :thumbs

Well, considering that I was probably the one that wrecked MaddaMek's account :blush, I'm glad to see you functional. I'm about to head back into the gears and see what other spambots are hiding in the trap I set...

I think I will be weedy this month, but it's not over yet. I have built the 1/144 Scale X-wing, and I've done the wing assemblies and cockpit for the 1/72 scale. There are some parts that will need to be painted and decaled first before I actually complete the build... so it puts me in a bit of a bind.

Lastly, the Blood Bowl Elves remain unbuilt so far. Hopefully soon...

Paint me Panzee too (maybe?).

Between finals, getting my account nuked and other life&love sheneinigans I'm left with bunch of unpainted (and mostly unfinished, I plan something more than just flat plastic) bases... Hope to get most of them finished and primed tomorrow tho.

Yup. Going to be weedy. However, all is not lost. I joined a painting/weathering contest for Model Railroading, so I have my threat for next month done.

Also, right now, my daughter is downstairs painting Bloodbowl Dwarfs, and is doing a great job at it so far. :)

Well, I didnt get them primed, I did however get them fully built, so that along with my 10 painted boyz makes me green for the noo year challenge :D
