Imagine my disappointment when not only did my local hobby shop not have the awesome looking official Dakkajet model, but the 1:72 A-10 Warthog I bought instead was barely fit for a grot! The gattling gun was about the size of the barrel on a slugga, and I couldn't even stuff in the flyboy! No matter, I was going to cover it in plasticard anyways. Time to make the shootiest Dakkajet there ever was!

I have cunningly found a way to upload pics and not pay a cent or even register, so here are the links because they are huge and I can't figure out how to shrink them to fit on the page:

http://img.4plebs.or...12688415579.jpg

http://img.4plebs.or...12688635992.jpg

Done list:

 • Flyboy inserted
 • Weedy front end removed
 • Supa-Shooty Gattlin' Shoota constructed from 1/2" tube and 4 shootas I had lying around, mounted in nose for more accurate BRRRRRT!
 • Trukk exhaust pipes recycled into guns
 • Plasticard plating started

To Do List:

 • I've still got 12 shootas lying around, gotta put them on somehow. Although I'm not sure where I'd stick them, I could will turn them into Supa-Shooty Gattlin' Shootas as well, for maximum BRRRRRT! (for BRRRRRT! is the purest form of shootiness, purer even than DAKKA itself)
 • Need to construct the cockpit around our resident flyboy. Those are the controls he's holding right now. No, that choppa is staying a choppa. It's his emergency choppa; he needs it in case he crashes and miraculously survives and has to slog it back to the rest of the boyz.
 • Need to build the front
 • Wings need to be longer and wider. Not sure how to go about this.
 • Enlarge the fuselage. I'm particularly concerned about the width, but some others have suggested length.
 • Sling an unused Zzzap! Kannon from the old battlewagon kit somewhere, because why not. It's not like I'll ever use it for anything else. Actually, forget I said that.
It might come in handy for my super-secret project.
• Construct 6 Supa-Shootas from 1/4 tubes so I never get heckled for WYSIWYG. Sure, 4 Supa-Shooty Gattlin' Shootas plus a few incidental guns on the jet would probably so the trick, but am I really going to not use an excuse for more dakka? Need to build them into the jet in a way that looks.....not contrived.
 • The turbines look pretty puny. However, I don't think I have the skill, patience or at hand materials to make bigger ones that wouldn't look out of place....better make one big one out of trukk grills and plasticard and sling it under the belly. That'll make it go faster and add bulk to the fuselage.
 • One pair of converted exhaust pipes don't quite look like guns yet. I need to fix that.
 • Said pair of converted exhaust pipes in under one wing. I'm going to have to put something under the other wing to balance the spread of dakka.
 • Glyphs and plates everywhere
 • Battle damage

Thoughts, advice, tips?

T'au box rockets (like on the hammerhead) are rather bulky so I don't fully recommend them. Here, have a look at the time I modified my dakkjet into a pizza delivery plane. I happened to built a decent gatling in front - and a shark nose for good measure. It might inspire you.

Any chance you can show WIP pictures with dimensions? We'd have a better idea how to assist with kunnin' plans.  I wouldn't overdo it with a bunch of shootas myself, a nice big gatling can count for a lot. :)

Links to the pics should be in the first post now.

Yeah, a big gatling can count for a lot, but I'm just looking for an excuse to use up those shootas, because I'm afraid I never will otherwise and I played around with my list this morning and made the flyboy a flyboss, so he's entitled to plenty of dakka. Plus, if you saw my kustom power klaws back from 2 summers ago, you'll know that overkill a bit of a running gag in my army.

Anyhoo, I'm off to work on the Gattling guns and the jet gubbins.

Goodness, that plane is much too weedy on hull to work with, you need to biggify this, pronto! A bigger bodywork will let you fit the pilot better than if he was in a kayak, and even maybe have room around the edges to put those shootas, kinda like russian planes in WWII often had machine guns set around the engine, pointing forward, rather than on the wings.

I suspect you'll ignore this advice, given the amount of work/plastic needed to rebuild the body, that's fair. :)  So I'm moving on to other suggestions.

To beef up your wings, you could just add 'external flaps', think a slab of metal used as a flap that's literally tacked on the rear edge of the wing by the gubbins used to flap it. 2-4 of those will broaden those wings nicely. Don't worry about the thickness, nobody'll notice that. Especially if you add gun pods and rokkits under them wings anyhow. There's your tip on adding shootas: don't get in over your head making them part of the wing, just build a 'gunpod' or two below the wing.

The engines look fine to me, I would just decorate them with strips of .25mm styrene going around them, rivets, some glyphs, some tubing or even a silly exhaust...

Eh, it's a Warthog-Dakkajet. Gattling guns (settling for 3 of them now, I didn't like how the 4th one turned out, had to use those shootas with the barrels wrapped in leather, don't like the look of that at all) go in front of the pilot, and the Supa-shootas will go onto the wings. Not drawing up the supa-shootas until I've got the wings built though. Anyhow, an update:

The Gattling guns, which are done now, are probably going to end up a lot further forward than in the drawing. As you can, I've said 'zog it' and put the Zzap! gun under the other wing anyways. I haven't got any thin plasticard, and I like fairly blocky aesthetics, so don't expect many curves.

Been distracted for a while updating an unpainted battlewagon for 7th ed. Anyhow, this is what the plane looks like right now:

As you can see, there's been a few changes of plan. Dakka is being pointed forward and at angles so the pilot has a better chance of hitting something.

Today's to do-list comprises of building the underjet and strapping guns to it.

You don't have any thin plasticard? Here's a tip: next time you hit the supermarket, have a close look at the different brands of yogurt in small pots, especially look at the etched tag that likely has a recycle symbol. It's supposed to have 2-4 letters indicating the kind of plastic.  If it's 'PP' (the vast majority, in Canada) it's useless nongluable plastic, polypropylene.  But if you find a brand that uses 'PE' That's polyethylene and should work with our glues.  'PS' is polystyrene and is even better.

I didn't have any thin plastic either for a while, but got lucky and found a brand of yogurt that used PE pots. So I found a tasty snack and some hobby plastic. Win-win!

PE and PS.....that might come in handy, especially since it might get me lots of curved bits.

Anyhow, I didn't finish what I set out to do today, but I did something else. Something that I used to think was only for the pros. Something I wasn't sure I'd ever do. Something that is going to push this build past my warboss in terms of how proud I am to have built it.

Really gotta thank you for telling me about PE and PS. I managed to dig my wing material out of the blue box. The wings need a lot of work, but this is a good start.
