The copy I've seen is the pre-release copy in the GW store where I currently work part-time. Full colour, the rules are totally revised... but if you've been following it online, it shouldn't be much of a surprise :)

I downloaded an excel army builder and compared it to the playtesting version, there appears to be some points changes... only some decreases, from what I can see. I'm trying to not get too familiar with the playtest version, or else I know I'll end up confusing the two.

I think i would like epic, because it looks like you get to bring TONS of heavy support, which i'm all about. But theres limited availibility to it and the players... The only pics of them that i've seen of blast markers were the pics in that bitz catalog. They were two pieces of cardboard that slide into each other so they stand and look 3D. I looked closer at the entry in the Specialist Games release info, and they're listed as "...gemstones that can be used as Blast markers". so i'm not sure what the new ones look like. Either way, they're manufactured by GW, so the GW shop can't bitch at me for not having legit GW blast markers.

the folding one were from the older version and Players Edition. Better than gemstones, IMO, as it is a little closer to the "illusion".

I like these, I might try and make me some :yes

Yeah, CG said i should scratchbuild some blast counters, so it's something i could consider. Athough, these Epic ones:

Would be good, but in space i think it have to look more like:

to get the point across that there is more of a weightless enviornment, the explosiong cloud would have to be suspended, much like this image of a bomb detonating in the air, proir to impact.

BFG blast markers work well for Epic too. Instead of ground based, you raise them up on a bit of wire. Ball the wool or cotton batton and then paint as described in the article. For Epic, this looks like Flak (which looks AWESOME vs flyers).

I am speaking purely out of theory here, because I have only played a few small games so far, but... it seems that the blast markers shouldn't be too big, as you could have up to one (or two in the case of beakies) per unit (stand) in a detatchment (like a 40K squad), and you might have 10 or more detachments in an army. In a tactical beakie detachment, you could have 14 models... which could accumulate 28 blast markers total! So, I think something somewhat unobtrusive would be desireable, otherwise they could obscure the tiny models, and take up too much space.... especially if you have multiple detachments withing close proximity. hmmm... what if it were a slightly larger explosion that could fit a small die in it, which would keep track of how many blast markers the unit has. So, one marker can represent 1-6 blast markers, if they get more, you just add another blast base. So, you'd still visually get the sense how badly a unit is doing, because you'd see the accumulation of explosions, but the area wouldn't be as clogged up with counters. Or, some variation of the older titan bases that have a wheel and a window to keep track of hull/structure points.

I find making a lot of small blast markers (on an American or Canadian penny, so 1cm in diameter) work best. You can make larger ones on a 40K base and have them noticeably bigger to represent 5 blast markers.

hmm, good idea, a little simpler, yet keeps down on the number of BMs on the table top. It's rather unfortunate that 'BM' ended up being the common term for 'blast marker' :sowhat :puke

Ok, so I'm a little slow to pick this thread up.... For what it's worth, the Dropship 40.000 BMs are made with standard 25mm bases, and the bigger ones to rep 5BMs are on 40mm. but now that I think about it... CG's penny blasts sound like they'd be a whole lot more manageable on the tabletop. That would leave the 25mm bases a good size for the 5s.
