Looking good, liking the new sculpts for the Orcs whicb are taking their cue from the Ironjawz range but still bearing thr hallmarks of classic Blood Bowl.

Another piece of good news, they've kept the same rules and not tried to update them

That's only good news if they mean the last online update. If they went back to the original rules, there's already no-brainer teams that need nerfing.

There's talk that they've been working with Cyanide studios to finalise the ruleset, so here's hoping we'll see something reasonable rules wise

My spies tell me they've kept the ruleset the same on appearances. Will still believe it when I see it.

Is it only new who finds the modern style of art and miniatures an awkward fit for blood bowl? There always seemed something comical about this game... It's weird to see it coupled with modern Warhammer dirty/spiky aesthetics.

Won't affect the game play, of course. It just looks weird to me.

Oooo! How did I miss this. I may not be doing much Warhammer lately, but this has my interest :)

I'm liking the new miniatures, the designers (for I guess sculpting is long dead at GW), have managed to capture the essence of the old miniatures and bring it up to the standard of the new Orruk models.

Having seen what was achieved with WHQ, I'm quietly confident that the re release of this game will work well, better boards and dugouts, better miniature design, similar ruleset with recycled jokes from the last 3 editions

As an American, I'm pretty interested in this releasing. It looks both like great fun and great parody.

So the new boxed set is almost out, we've seen some of the teams. I have to say, the miniatures look incredibly disappointing. Blatant duplicates, duplicates of models that have pretentions of being distinct. That to me is simply lazy design, and follows a growing and ominous trend of "try-hard aesthetics" with dogmatic posing, meaning that if multiples of the same options appeal as effective (which they invariably do vastly over variety) you end up with identical poses and appearances. For gaming systems purportedly about buying lots of models, variety should be possible. Why bother with plastic kits if there is no inherent flexibility.

Plus with the talk of rules changes: the hint is in Death Zone "Season One", much potential for shifting meta, and thus if it's like AoS, 40k or Warmahordes where old stuff becomes shit in a few months, what's the fucking point of doing SGs at all?

That box is not worth £65. Especially if they've ruined the system, and with their writers that's likely. Duplicate models is a deal-breaker for me. I will need a lot of convincing that this redux is heading in the right direction, because it's already harking back to the pathetic laziness that led to SG's fall from grace in the first place.

In spite of my grumbling, I still pre-ordered the set. The self loathing is real. Although the rules appear more or less the same as before, with a few additions.

Got myself a copy, plus Death Zone. I'm starting to paint the Human team, and will be following-up shortly with the Orcs. Great sculpts, and they're bigger figures so lots of detail to paint. One of my RPG gaming friends is a huge football fan, so I am painting the two teams up in the colours of his favourite football teams one based on the home jerseys of the CFL Calgary Stampeders (Human) and the other based on the NFL Oakland Raiders (Orc). I figure that the Orcs will be my version of the Orcland Raiders. I haven't quite figured out a name for the human team yet. When I get the Skaven team, they're going to be the Greenblight Pack Herders. :)

Well first impressions aren't bad. I'm still concerned that GW will incorporate meta-shagging in the game with the seasons, and I'm still pissed at the copy paste models (although I do at least see why now). So far it seems to be okay. You need to look pretty hard to see the changes, which is good.

But they need to make sure they keep the game interesting, and that they support it properly with the best possible models. I am already irritated by the fact it's been offhanded onto Forgeworld, who are already shirking responsibility for 40k in favour of BL's tiresome cyclejerk of homoerotic spess mureenz. That doesn't bode well for productivity, and skates worryingly close to the same kind of skeleton crew that let SG deteriorate last time. It is at least a good sign that they're willing to let good rules stand as they are, rather than change for the sake of "compulsory faff tax" (i.e. editions of 40k). I still remain somewhat paranoid. I've been burned so many times by GW that the idea of GW going back to the days of making good games are on the horizon. Especially considering that AoS, whilst it has potential, is not an all-round success and frequently criticised.

Supposedly, Blood Bowl is supposed to be part of the resurgence of a renewed Specialist games. AoS hasn't done all that well, but it sounds like Blood Bowl is.

Indeed. I considered applying to that SG Writer's job they advertised for. But somehow I wasn't really convinced that I'd sell myself on the question of "Why do you want this job?" with "Well I'd be the first writer to join you in over 10 years who knows what they're doing and I don't want anyone else fucking it up". Somehow I figured that wouldn't go down that well. :lol

Whoever got the job seems to be doing okay. They had a hand in Silver Tower (the new Heroquest) and the Blood Bowl redux. So far it's going well. GW were always better at the smaller Skirmish style games anyway. I am fond of AoS, but it's the same people who are ruining 40k and made WHFB 8th, so it's a bit like getting the builder who ruined your previous house to build you a new one...

I'm a long term Blood Bowl devotee, but after seeing the new figures I have decided that my existing (converted) teams are still the go (they have more than 3 poses per team/ 1 pose per position, for starters).

Rules haven't changed/ already have a pitch & a range ruler = more money not poured down the gurgler.

There are some rules changes. In fact, this video explains all of them:

http://bbtactics.com...ew-video.10332/

The new double sided board is very nice. In terms of poses, there's certainly more than the original game, but my converted Orc team from a while back has more poses because conversions. In essence each sprue comes with 6 figures in 6 poses, with 2 sprues per team. So you get 3 lineman poses, and then 1 pose each for the additional positions. As for money, the Skaven team is $40 CDN, which is the cheapest I've seen a Blood Bowl team of 12 figures.

What is cool though, is that they've made a point of updating rules for all previous teams (even really really really early ones) so that you can use your old figures with the new system.

He (the guy in Aga's linked Video) didn't mention the team specific ball rules, but from what I've seen so far those are optional. Also, no idea if every team is going to get a "special ball" type rules, but the Orks and Skaven do.

Where are the ball rules?

That said, I love that they kept the rules mostly the same. Only thing I hate is they have so many limited releases before the teams are out.

I think they were in a white dwarf. I've never read them myself. It was my local staffer who mentioned them.
