Flame effect has come out well on it - and it makes a far better 'flying base' than sticking a bit of plastic rod up its' bum :thumbs

Many thanks Badfang. I agree. This way, the base becomes an intregal part of the overall model.

Another challenging model to build, and the Terrorghast is a bitch to put together, let alone convert, but that flame, i gotta admit to having doubts early on about it, but looking at it now, you can almost get the wave of heat coming off it as it melts that walker to slag iron...hehehe!

Yup, definitely pure win on that flaming flying base. Jobs a gud'n.  :thumbs

Lovely model and a wonderful conversion idea and really good execution. Kudos.

Now 'ere'z me two bits on what would've taken this to the next level...

The wings are weedy. I would've green-stuffed them to completion. The whole raggedy look may work for a terrorghast-whatsit-thingy, but a proppa squig is a sturdy fing. Also to that end I would've green-stuffed him a bit of a gut and generally rounded him out. It may offend your sensibilities about flying creatures, but physics have nothing to do with this. It's all about being orky... or in this case, squiggly.

Still I love your creativity. Waaagh on, mate.

Not wanting to gang up on you or owt ;) but I do find myself agreeing wiv da Mad Grot - I also appreciate that you've only got so much base weight to balance it all out from :bang

One useful trick that you can do with GS is flatten it as thin as you can and then stretch it thinner which might enable you to fill in some of the holes in the wings without adding too much weight :? You might also be able to make a rough half-egg shape out of paper and then skin it with some more stretched and flattened GS to bulk its' gut up a bit more (again without adding much more weight). On the other hand - there's no particular reason why it shouldn't just be looted as is  :thumbs

EDIT - incidently Mik, have you tried switching your router off and back on after a couple of minutes or so - it sorted out my issues with not being able to post multi-quotes.

Thank you Mad Grot and again Badfang for your valued input.

I don't use green stuff, nevah  have nevah  will. Two reasons: LImited Budget to work with, and i don't live anywhere near a Hobby Store, so generally order from ebay or GW direct.

This model, as with my Gargantuan Squiggoth and other SQuiggoths was all done wiwth nomorenails. Sadly, the nomorenail i got this time was quite sticky and white spirit cleanable rather than water based as my previous ones were. I didn't know until now there were different types, but you live and learn.

I tried filling in the holes, which was successful with the smaller ones but useless on the bigger rents.

I considered cutting off the ragged end bits, but shied away from it, in the end. I considered covering the underside with masking tape, but shied away from that too, given how fiddly it would be (i have Parkinson's so suffer from a hand tremor, believe it or not, which adds to the challenges of modelling and painting.)

I did pump a lot of nomorenails into the ribcage and hip area, and then moulded it into shape, so it's a skinny looking squig but far less skinny than it's undead counterpart.

i'll have a go at fixing the wings however and see how i get on..

Accepting the challenge, i'm going to try and repair the tattered wings

let's hope it works...first masking tape the underside.

then squeeze on some nomorenails, smooth down with white spirits and a brush... and allow to dry.

You're welcome - don't know how valuable this will be but GS is a lot more expensive than Kneadatite which is generally sold by the yard for plumbing repairs (and can be obtained off ebay and possibly your local DIY) ;)

Kneadatite is what GW sells with it's own "green stuff" brand. you know how it works. Once it has GW or Citadel printed on it price sky rockets!

May I suggest Greenstuffworld for cheap supplies and alos hobbymad (irish base with free shipping over a tenner in Ireland)

The nomorenails dried OK and allowed me to peel off the masking tape this morning, so i'll be able to repaint the wings in a bit.

I haven't forgotten or igniored the belly suggestion, merely considering a suitable way to accomplish this without adding too much to the upper weight of the structure. Watch this space....
