I like the idea of a mek garage, as for some thoughts, why not make a little crane carrying half of a land speeder or something to make the shop look like it's being given full usage, or was until the battle started....

For the crane, a lot of the old Jurrasic Park veichles had cranes that already looked a bit patched up with rivets and stuff IIRC. Might save you a bit of work.

I was bored at work last Friday, and wandered around the shop (it's a Rig Tools shop, so large and unsubtle in nature) looking for things that would be found in an Ork Shop:

Trukk: You've already got one, so I'll just suggest adding a Dreadnought arm (with the claw thingy) onto it to make it a good salvage vehicle. It would act as a crane for loading remains into the trukk, as well as a "Jaws of Life"type deally to cut off bits that are too damaged or won't fit in da Trukk or whatever.

Forklift: The mek want's to get his new soopa charged engine from inside da shop into his buggy, but the crane can't reach inside, and when da Grots tried to carry it, they keep dropping it! Little bleep.gif ! So, you need something to carry stuff into and out of the shop, under shelves, a palette with loose cans, etc which a hoist can't do.

An Ork "Forklift" could be a suit of Mega-Armor, modified like that loader in the "Alien/s" movie.

Tools: We have 5 main tools, and I'm sure the same would be found in an Ork shop. Hammers, Wrenches, Screwdrivers, Cutting torch, welder. The hammers and wrenches vary in size from the small ones everyone has in their garage, to some real big-ass sledge hammers and wrenches with four foot handles. These should be fairly easy to make from plasti-card. I'm sure no Ork shop would be complete without at least one massive sledge hammer to "encourage" stubborn bits of machinery (and lazy grots if necesarry).

For a cutting torch, an Ork Burna Boy model could be used. Otherwise, 2 large compressed gas containers hooked up to a torch is all you need.

Other tools, like power drills, tend to be kept in boxes and such, so are less visable.

Air Compressor or Generator: Some form of power is always handy.

A paint Booth just covered in your armies colors would be a good touch. After many years of usage, I think their is at least an inch of paint on all surfaces in our booth. Have some cans of paint with spillage down the side, maybe a grot sniffing the thinner...

Oh, if only I weren't so lazy, I'd do one myself. laughingOrk.gif

I'd still say grots or snots huffing nitrous oxide from a tank somewhere would be just classic... along with a totally busted up Panzie jetbike/Imp Bike with "Da Loaner" painted on it or a sign hanging off it, would be nice touches IMHO.. maybe a chalk board with crazy concept sketches on it ala junkyard wars would be a good thought...

all good ideas! Now If i can just come up with the wrecked land speeder, and panzee bike (hint, hint), we're good to go!

Sean, the trukk is 1/35 inch scale, and I don't have it yet so I can't give you overall dimensions. I really wanted the other "official" US Army salvage vehicle, but that kits like $40 bucks; this guy cost me 10. With a plow blade on the front and the back cut down to fit a big winch/crane/dragging device, I think it will work nicely, and has in its orgigional state, a very orky look.

Ironshark, man your input have been awesome - thanks so much! Not sure if I will do the forklift, physical space might get cramped on this, but a paint booth is a groovy idea! And thanks again for your buggy tactica - not sure if you read the post ork fest report, but by using your ideas three buggies of mine blocked up 3 vanquishers for the entire game. Definately a good use of 150 points!

You've got a little orky care package coming in the mail brother, let me know when it gets to you, yeah?

My only suggestion is to add a few bits of scrap lying about the place that look like they came off of Goff or Bad Moon vehicles. That's where my boyz get most of their gear, and I imagine that a propa DeathSkull mekshop would look a lot like a chop shop for repainting/repairing/converted vehicles liberated from other clans. After all, why build it yourself (or BUY it - when has a DeathSkull ever bought anything?) when you can just borrow what you need and rebuild it to your liking?

Them's my 2 teef.

So - whenever dem doks finish staplin' yer arms back on Haky, why don't you an yer boyz come down fer a visit. We'll 'av a few squigaritas, throw a few grots around an' discuss who dis 'ere choppa really belongs to...

These Waaaghs are a cross between a mass migration, holy crusade, looting party and pub crawl, with a bit of genocide thrown in for good measure.

Nosher, I got your mekshop "kare" package, thanks - you really sent too much. It is appreciated though, and i kept your address...who knows what the postal grot will bring?

Here's an update on the slow progress. The second layrer of foamcore's been added, you can now see how the door and windows will be indented, and the inherent support structure for the flooring.

It looks like you have a lot of good ideas already, Scarpia. The WIP looks promising also. yes.gif

Do you still plan on having a pile of drums and barrels? If so, how about having a puddle of "mystery moisture" underneath? I don't see orks treating their drums and barrels gently so all many of "juices" could have pooled together underneath them. I think such a puddle would also break up whatever basing you give it. biggrin2.gif

puddles of oooze are just one more good idea to add to my list! Jeez, this thing is taking on a life all of its own!

For scale, the tower should be about 6 inches total in height, and 4 inches square. The base for the terrain will be on 1/4 inch thick plywood, with a beveled edge. The base will be 12 by 12 inches square. I chose this side as I wanted it big enough to hold all the crap I want to put in, and yet small enough to maybe actually use as an objective in a game.

I hadn't thought about making things removable......that's interesting. The fence on one side will be part of the tower, so that might make things difficult. i may mount the structures to the base, but make small bitz (like fuel pallets, the buggy that will be in the shop getting suuped up, etc) removable for transport.

The bottom door will be fixed, but the one on the second level may be openable. i haven't decided, or cut it out yet!

How about having the torso of a kan/dread with the lid off so you could see the worky gubbinz inside? Leave off the arms and legs- just have trailing wires.

Looking good and solid there Scarp, excellent start. As for the kare package don't give it a second thought, I've literally got tons of stuff I'll probably never use myself and a shop for Gooba sounded like a good cause to me!
