I'm afraid you're somewhat stuck mate. You basically have two choices if you don't want to buy the metal ones.

Get Tyranid, troll and ravasaur head pieces from plastic bitz dealers for mad cheap then convert them into squigs by adding legs.

I've seen some impressive conversions using Dark Panzee Cold Ones. take a look at these.
You could also use Ramshackle Games' "Dungers". Here is a mangler squig conversion that uses them. -------------------- Full speed ahead and damn the consequences!

I have seen some fair results for smaller squigs converted from pink horrors. Maybe worth a looksie.
