Maruading Mork!!! It's time for a new painting challenge. This time, you have 31 days to paint! Time for a big project mefinks
Previous Painting Challenges: Note: Due to a UBB Code mix-up, follow this link to access earlier Painting Threats: Waaaghril (April) 2011 Mek's Month (May) 2011 j00n (June) 2011 Waaaghust (August) 2011 Slap-Timber (September) 2011 Orktober (October) 2011 Novemba (November) 2011 Dakkatember (December) 2011 Noo Yeer (January) 2012 Orkuary (February) 2012 Borrowing an idea from the Privateer Press forums, the Waaagh is now doing a regular monthly painting challenge. I am officially administering it, but also participating in it myself. The idea is, you make a promise to paint and/or build a given number of models at the beginning of the month, and then report back both on your progress and if and when you manage to complete it. Since Orks don\'t really make vows, they make threats that are usually carried out, we\'re going to call this your \"Painting Threat\" --just don\'t make it a bluff! So here we go... The Ground Rulez:
FAQ Q: Do I have to do Orks or GW Figs only? A: No, not really. There isn\'t anything stopping you from doing so, but seeing as this the Waaagh, I think most of us would prefer to see Proppa Ork modelz, and not some weedy panzee piece, or even a more semi-proppa Khadorian Behemoth Q: I need to change my Painting Threat! A: You have until Day 10 of the month. Q: What if I don\'t have a camera? A: We operate on the honour system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so. Q: Will you do one of these every month? A: That\'s the goal... We\'ll do one of these close to the beginning of every month... we\'ve now done it for more than two years. Q: Hey, what if we finish our vow but decide to paint more? A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it\'s kind of weedy to make a painting threat with a 75% painted unit at the start of the month... as guilty as I am of this myself! Q. I\'ve not made my threats for the past two months, should I still enter? A. You bet! The idea behind a painting threat is to develop some discipline as to what you\'re going to build or paint. Part of the challenge is to learn what you can complete within a given month, and what you can\'t. If you find you\'re not making your threat for the month, then reduce the size of it. Don\'t bite off more than you can chew... take it in smaller chunks. If you manage to finish your threat early, then get working on the next lot! Q. What if I get my threat done early? A: Well, if you get it done early, you can try to make a Bonus Threat where you can add an additional threat only after the existing work is completed. No bonus prizes, but you will get the respect of everybody. Additionally, this can be a way to make sure you don\'t over-threaten earlier in the month. Right... now that you\'ve got it, get to it lads!! Registered Threats

Well, I'm finally back in the game. Not only that, my new job doesn't start until April 1st, so it means I have an entire month off to concentrate on painting. So while my threat may seem big, I really do have the time to sink into it. I'm hoping to get all of this done, and then some.
The major part of my threat is to paint all of the parts to my 3rd Edition Space Hulk set. That's 22 Genestealers, 1 Broodlord, 12 Blood Angel Terminators (inclusive of 1 Librarian, 1 Sergeant with a Thunderhammer and Stormshield, 1 Sergeant with Storm Bolter and Power Weapon, 1 Terminator with Lighting Claws, 1 Terminator with Storm Bolter and Chainfist, 1 Terminator with an Assault Cannon, 1 terminator with a Heavy Flamer, and 5 Terminators with the standard Storm Bolter and Powerfist loadout). There's also 1 dead terminator, as well as door slits, an ornate cup, and a tracked probe. All of these will be painted by month's end. In addition to this, I also have a new set of 1/100th scale (15mm) German StuG G Assault Guns made the by the Plastic Soldier Company. They are the same scale for Flames of War, but are much nicer in their detail (and quite a bit cheaper). I have already assembled one of the five from the box. I plan on building the remaining 4, along with a few conversions while I am at it. So yes, I am back in the game. -------------------- ______Agatheron

Where's the Orks in your threat, Aga? Looks pretty zoggin weedy to me....
Glad to see you back to work, in any case. I have been quietly building vehicles since Autgust, and this month I'm going to try to paint them. So - my threat for the month of Mork is that I will try to paint 1 Kill Krusha, 1 Kill Blasta, 1 FW Kommander (converted to stand on his own base/gave him legs) & 3 Rokkit Launcha buggies. -------------------- So - whenever dem doks finish staplin' yer arms back on Haky, why don't you an yer boyz come down fer a visit. We'll 'av a few squigaritas, throw a few grots around an' discuss who dis 'ere choppa really belongs to...

Well I failed last month (although I painted lots - none of it was on my list here, being a whole load of Dark panzee for an Apoc game and then 2 days tuition with Mathieu Fontaine).
this month however, I will be getting my Ork village, "Orkington" to a stage where all the scenery will at least cover 25% of a table. I need to have all these items ready for month end for our tournament, so I can't fail this time! |

Good to have an update of my own. So far work on the 22+1 Space Hulk Genestealers is going well. I'm nearly finished them. To the point that I have some highlights on the skulls, and then I do the armour/helmet remnants on the bases of some of the 'stealers. As such, I decided to take a bit of a break from the genestealers and paint the Blood Angel terminators. I primed them white, and then gave them a watered down thraka green wash as a preshade. I then airbrushed them first with a general coat of Blood Red/Dark Flesh, then a second layer of straight Blood Red, then a light dusting with Blood Red/Blazing Orange. The shading is subtle, but it works. I still have to do edge highlights by brush, and then a Baal Red wash to unify the colours... but before I do that, I am blacking down all the parts that are not going to be red on these models... which is a fair bit of blacking down... but curiously enough, they look even better once I have them blacked down.
Somewhere in this mix I also have to do the Librarian, who is a totally different colour scheme! -------------------- ______Agatheron
