Thanks for re-posting these NS, I'm sure a great many of our newer members have never seen your army & weren't around back in the day. Any chance this burst of activity shows a renewed interest in the boyz? Would love to see you pick up the paint brush & come out of retirement!!!

So - whenever dem doks finish staplin' yer arms back on Haky, why don't you an yer boyz come down fer a visit. We'll 'av a few squigaritas, throw a few grots around an' discuss who dis 'ere choppa really belongs to...

These Waaaghs are a cross between a mass migration, holy crusade, looting party and pub crawl, with a bit of genocide thrown in for good measure.

You know Nosher's MO, anything he paints blue is automatically his.

The activity is a response to some requests, though it was nice to know my models made a memorable impression on some- there's so much nice stuff in here these days it seems easy to get lost in the shuffle! It was fun to review through them again, it's been a while since I'd seen some of them. After my skumgrods all moved away and the local game stores closed down, my efforts waned. Making sculptures that have to fit within a certain context (both in rules and story) even though they'll never be used started to feel like unnecessary compromise to my creativity. These days I am focusing more on my own artwork.

And you had to dry brush,.. uphill,...both ways,...in the snow!

Sorry to hear you had a technical glitch, but this was a nice trip down the old To Plunder list memory lane. yes.gif I don't recall some of the mega armor shots or the grot with his pet/plushie, so that's new for me. thumbs.gif

Still another thanks for your posts here. Your Guntrukk inspired me to build all my Boomwagons as armored car types, though my work is nowhere as good as the original. The looted Basilisk is positively inspiring, as are the trukks, and the mek shop and... heck, all of your work is, who am I kidding?

Thanks NS. You brung a tear to me eye.<sniff> loveemoticon.gif

Thanks for posting these, NS, the nostalgia value is immense.

These models were the first things I saw on the Waaagh as a yoof, all those years ago, and seeing them again is great. They kick-started my interest in Orks, and gave me something, as a modeller, to aspire to.

I must admit I slowed down with my Orks when the new models became available, as some of the mandatory fun had been taken away.

Hopefully some new Yoofs will see these and it will inspire them to try their hand at the sort of conversion work that Ork players from bak in da day did.

Thanks again, Nightserpent.

cheers.gif

I must admit I was fairly inconsistent with my painting methods, I'd generally just wing it and evolve with each new project as I learned more. In general, lenses went something like this:

Attached Image

So, a basecoat color, followed by a diluted ink wash or black or a darker version of the base color. This is followed by a series of brighter and brighter circles that gravitate towards the bottom of the previous circle without touching the bottom of that previous circle (if this makes any sense laughingOrk.gif ). The number of circles vary on your sanity, eyesight, brush quality, etc. Ideally for a show piece you would like the shades and steps subtle enough to have them look smooth to the naked eye. Then, finish off with a white dot or shallow arc on top.

For yellow, something I painted little of, I had even less of a method. The dread/stompa was done with a white primer to let the yellow really glow. I then basecoated a light yellow and then gave it some very light coats of a brown/yellow/orange inkwash. I then used the original basecoat yellow and repainted all the non-recessed areas, then added gradual thinned layers of lighter and lighter shades. Then, weather it to your preferences.

I hope that helps, it's been some years since I've been doing these.

Could you not also say 'me gusta'? winkingOrk.gif Thanks, Nosher's boss was fun, as a tribute to his Dethskull loota prowess, his power pack is a looted Epic 40K scale predator chassis.

Really glad you posted these, and somewhat depressed to find out that you never finished the Deffwing. Still, really wonderful stuff -- your Speed Freaks are probably my single most favoritest Ork army.

I was thinking along the same lines as Ol' Stikky Fingas. When I saw this thread I had hoped to see some new stuff in there. But, thank you anyway for reposting these. When I first joined, I really enjoyed looking through your threads and writing down stuff to shamelessly loot, er I mean lookin' fer insperashun.

This guy, right here, was one of my major sources of orky inspiration.

I've never seen the other deffwing models before. Well, except the plastic conversions ones. Really diggin the beard squigs. Yeesh, it's been a while.

My favourites have always been the vehicle kitbashes. I remember them getting me pretty pumped. thumbs.gif

(also I'm in your town, haha)

I was also hoping for new stuff, but I've always wanted to see the models in yours and nosher's avatars. I think it goes without saying that these are some excellent models. I used to visit your gallery a lot when I first joined the waaagh.

here's why my orks are blue. they have an intense hatred of historical recording of any kind which results in none of them knowing why they're blue. because of this, anytime anyone questions the origin of their skintone they waste no time adding the inquirer's head to their bosspole. no one will ever know why these orks are blue, as merely asking about it is a death wish. in the end there will be only 3 types of people left, the blue orks, those who don't want to know the history of the blue skin, and the dead.

Cool, thanks for sharing that- not that I invented the monowheel or anything! nono.gif laughingOrk.gif It was a bit easier when the entire range of bitz (current and most of the older stuff) was available online, it really helped with conversions.
