I've gotten a couple requests recently about re-posting/sharing my Ork models. I used to have a gallery piggybacked on my art site, but when I switched my hosting plan the pages got wiped away. So, I thought I'd re-post them here! It was during the beginning and height of the third edition rules that much of this was built (I've never played 4th), and looking back it was an interesting time to be an ork player. The model range was very limited, aside from the excellent Brian Nelson muti-part ork models (basically what they have now, just with more added gubbinz) there were massive holes in what was available. Either they were very dated looking kits from the previous edition, or they simply didn't make it. So, we were left to scratchbuild and kitbash, which was a lot of fun. There was a great deal of innovation going around, and many of us started to define the looks for things that GW never really fully explained for us. There are some really nice new kits for orks these days, in a way I am jealous and in a way I think that removes the need for the creativity. Gee, I am sounding like some crusty old timer!! back in the day, we had to use roadkill fer batllewagginz, as gee-dubbya weren't making no battlewaggin kits fer no-one!!"
Here's my warboss on a bike: and a couple work-in-progress shots: -------------------- ![]() |

To my knowledge, I was the first to come up with the idea of the dethwing/deffwing (a dark angels 'deathwing' army interpreted with mega-armored orks), but I am not the first to finish them. My first take was to sculpt my own suit of mega armor and cast them, I later switched to using the original metal MA orks because I loved the models (and why re-invent the wheel?). I'd built them all, but never finished painting them. I got a bit discouraged because other people started making their own, and that took some of the fun out of it. To add to this, GW changed their rules mid-project, and that further deflated my enthusiasm:
MK2 sculpt of the body blanks: a group shot of the army, prior to priming (they are all rear mounted on their bases because ofhteir arms, and they all had grots going there to serve as personal grot shield for the invulnerable saves): an assault kannon armed boy: a psyklone/cyclone armed boy: da boss: -------------------- ![]() |

This is a 'dreadnought' for the Deffwing army:
I think that about sums up the highlights. Cheers! ~Paul -------------------- ![]() |

Thanks for posting these!
I was looking for photos of your Looted Basilisk a few weeks ago. It's one of my favourite models along with your Guntrukk, dread and mek. |
