Ok, i'd like to build an orc fleet but convert other races ships to be more orky (i love to convert). What ships are the right size for the different orc ships. I think i want a variety of IN ships, fish'ead and Orc ships all mixxed together. the problem is i dont quite get what ships are what size/ class for the different races. can anyone help or point me to a thread that might answer this (the search isnt working for me today). Im a total newb to BFG and if there is a reference in the books hey send me a page or chapter reference and ill look it up. Thanks in advance.

Model size in BFG doesn't matter. The models only represent the appearance of the vessel and are not a scale represenation, its the actual base size that counts in the game.
The smaller size bases are for the escort classes, the larger bases for the cruiser/dreadnaught vessels. For models for orks you've got an entire galaxy of stuff to loot. Escorts are typlicaly 30mm long(ish), cruisers about 50mm and larger vessels any size bigger. -------------------- the voices in my head sound better as a choir

ORK SHIP DIMENSIONS
So if you want to convert an Oomie Crusier into a Kill Kroozer simply cut it up and rebuild it into something more like the Kill Kroozer's dimensions. Using that basic rule the options are almost endless. If theres any doubt you can colour code your base edges. So long as you're making a good attempt to design the ships in such a way that their type is easily recognisable its all good. Making it easy to distinguish the difference between a Kill Kroozer and a Terror Ship or a Ravager and a Savage is more tricky. Which is where colour coded bases will help. A lot of people who use standard ships still colour code their bases because it can be tricky to distinguish between the different classes of Cruiser and Escorts. It's a common practice in BFG. -------------------- Nuf Said.

Have a look at some of the other manufactures of model ships out there as there are several that make models that would work well as the basis of a conversion. Also think about scratch building you can do a lot with various dimensions of plastic rod and strip, beakie back packs are a superb source of engines and thrusters. The epic range can also provide you with a host of handy bits.

The Ork BattleShip is propper weedy.
I beefed mine a little 90mm long 50mm wide 50mm tall Sounds like you should give yours a little more hight. But then that all depends on weather its style suits your fleet. Other than the problem of weediness with the GW model, it's design doesn't really match the other ships in the fleet. Which is why mine had, amongst other things, a complete prowl overhaul. It's less than 10mm longer and wider than the stock model, and barely more than 10mm taller. But its overall mass is twice what it was Dont be worrying about putting too many weapons on it as you can clearly state what it's armed with before the game starts. This particular BattleShip has been used as everything from a KroolBoy to a Gorbag'z to a Gork'z BigUn.

So should the battlekroozers follow similar dimensions to the battleships? thought they'd be slightly smaller to reflect the lower HP.

Sorry. Misread BattleKroozer
I made my by beefing up a Kroozer with Battleship parts. Its a comparable size to a stock BattleShip. Though noticeably smaller than my beefed up BattleShip. So I guess it all depends on what your current BattleShip's dimensions are. Just make it a wee bit smaller and less well armed

This is necroposting but it is a good idea that I want to share so I think it is worth it.
Rather than colour coding the base what about colour coding the ships. It could be based on clan colours. A Ramship could be black for goffs. A shooty ship like the Savage could be Blue for Lootas. Speed Freaks would have a fast red ship and so on. This could be extended to the fightas too. |

Yes, blatant necroposting, however, it is realavant, as I am wanting to start BFG...and I think that the idea of color coded ships is quite doable for me.
I run a united waaagh in 40k with diferent units being different clans, so it makes sense for BFG to tie in! -------------------- Nuffin' to see 'ere...moov along ya git!
