oh, i see what's going on here, givin' yerself a headstart eh
well here's some pics of my looted 'lith in the state it was in when i got yer message: and here it is after a bit o' work: the 'lastic bands won't be staying on the boiler so basically i'm building a steam-driven-wierdboy-powered-looted-monolith-trakter. or a sdwplmt for short and easy pronounciation. this beasty'll be getting a cow catcher, a giant aiming-device on top and some platforms with pintle-mounted bigshootas, as well as an orky face on the front o' the lith and possibly some kannons on the front - not set on them yet. in case you hadn't guessed, the wierdboy'll be chained into the top of the lith, and i plan to have him pulling the two bent parts of the side... ...structure towery focusing gubbinz... ...yeah that'll do... ...inwards. the wheels, you may have noticed, are a bit flat. to do this i cut a hole in the rim, squashed the tyre and filled it with a two-part quick setting plastic. i reakon hot glue would do the job just as well. i did it to try to get a feel of weightiness to the build, rather than have perfectly inflated monster-tyres. i overdid the squashing on one side (got bored and left a pile of shoes on it) so i'll be saying that it's a flat tyre, but the orks don't care, and neither does the engine. if anyone's wondering how i did the boiler, it's a fairly simple idea i had - instead of cutting all the strips out then trying to align them all properly, i cut a rectangle of p-card that would cover the boiler, scored out, but didn't cut, all the 'planks', then wrapped it round the boiler with lots of glue and a fair few elastic bands. this gives yo a look of lots of hard work and fiddling, with only the bother of the elastic pinging everywhere to worry about! so wha'd'y'all think so far? -------------------- |

Zog me! Dat's one cool trakta!! I can see I have proppa competion! By the way wots a 3/4 shot?? Cheers 'smasha I think he is referring to a shot taken at an angle that shows off the whole model. Slightly from above, and to the side a bit. At the moment we can only see the front and back height and width, so it would be nice to judge the model as a whole. i like that you lot like the traktor look!
but i was thinking, wouldn't it be nicer if the boiler was a bit... ...bigger. 3 bags of miracle-grow later: so i'm more inclined towards the longer look, with a grot coal-shovelling platform behind the boiler. the rear wheels will be getting new rims and the front ones'll be getting old skool traction-engine style plates where the tyres would be. i'm very tempted to make some chain-driven pulley-based steering mechanisms on the underside, with the entire axle rotating to steer, like on the old traction engines. the other tempation is to instead have several beer taps coming out behind the boiler, and say it's actually a giant fermentation 'boiler' for fungus brew, and the expanding gasses power the pistons in the engine. it would help me to not have to put a big classic train-like exhaust on the top of the boiler. more work commences later! -------------------- |

Kan anybody point me to the rules for a soopa junka and the options?
I also want ideas on how I could make it so that my tank kan transport and then deploy an escort of 4 grot tanks! Cheers 'smasha -------------------- Steampunk Zombies with Power Fists. They are in IA:8, Raid on Kastorel Novem. i could only see the roolz for a mekboy junka, not a soopa junka in there. i'm not sure if there are rules for it anywhere, really. i'm not fussed either way, i made up the roolz for mine -------------------- |

well the junka's a small vehicle, not a supaheavy, so really it wouldn't transfer over (essentially it's a looted rhino with a deffrolla). i say just pile on the worky gubbinz and figure out what they do after (proppa mek-style
if i were to come up for roolz for yours, i'd pin it as having a pulsa-rokkit, KFF, a few pintle-mounted weapons. or perhaps make some sort of special roolz for the rokkit - hed an apoc. game where the enemies had to stop the nuke from launching - they didn't. essentially a belly-gun which removes everything in the radius, including supaheavies. i wouldn't reccomend that much overpoweredness personally, but perhaps make it in a true multitasking-ork fashion, having it provide a shield for the nearby orks, but then blow up on the flick of a switch on the junka. good for getting rid of other clans trying to steal yer kills. could make it a serious anti-titan solid-shot rokkit - perhaps moving the titan back 3D6" away from the junka, and taking D3 s:D hits? -------------------- |

well, by the looks of it, it's supposed to sit at the back of the board and launch stuff into the game proper, but realistically orks aren't gunna let a technicality like thet stop them putting a big mass of whirry bitz on the front to clear the way there

Nice designs! I like the smaller boiler idea better for the Traktor. The bigger one looks too long IMO, esp if you add a deffrolla or cow catcha at the start of the long traktor design. That being said, it is early days WIP!

@da boss: well after originally planning for a trakter look, i've diverted to more of a locomotive style model - so it's gettin' longer! once i've got the basic wheel layout in place i'll try to get some pics up for y'all! any progress gobsmasha'? -------------------- |

right then gobsmasha, here's the bit where you get to pull up a decent lead - the bit where i go to turkey for a well-deserved fortnight.
sadly i've packed all my camera stuff already, so there'll be no pics, but i've mocked up a cardboard cowcatcher to get the template for the plasticard one and fitted in a bit of worky gubbinz from an old, long-dead project. lets see if i can't find a picture or two somewhere... it's mounted between the monolith and the boiler, with the pipe going into the boiler. i'll be adding chains and other worky gubbinz to make it actually look like it's powering the wheels somehow. and it's painted up all rusty, no pics of that yet 'mafraid. total length of this beasty is approximately 23", and personally i think it works pretty well. i'll be making a big zzappy power-harnessing gun of doom which i'll mount above the engine gubbinz, behind the boiler. i'll be trying to make it look fairlyintegrated into the build of the vehicle rather than a turret the orks built seperately then hammered into place. sadly it does mean it wont be able to pivot 360 degrees, but hey, can't win 'em all. 'sides, after it blows up, the wierdboy can fire anywhere (as in, at the nearest enemy). hope to see some progress when i get back cheers! -------------------- |
