I'm not real good at da finking stuffs.
I intend to play in the Eucalyptus Bowl later this year (Linky), and one thing is certain: I will be playin Greenskins. I have made up two wondrous teams (if I do say so myself - although "self praise is no praise") of plastic conversions - each with their own specialised pitch & sideline paraphernalia - and I'm equally proud of both, but I have no idea of which team to take to the tournament. I find both equally fun to play, so my head is starting to hurt doing all this thunking. I need opinions. (If you haven't followed the linky, the main elements of the weekend are that it is a resurrection tournament, that you can buy one 'normal' skill per player, and that there is a very highly desired prize category for the Stunty King.) My Orc team is the Greenskin Bay Hakkuz (aka: GBH), and wear uniforms based on the Green Bay Packers away strip. That roster is: 1 Troll, with Guard 4 Black Orcs, all with Block 4 Blitzers, all with Tackle (Elf killers, especially lined up outside the 5 player Wall of Doom on the LoS 1 Passer 2 Lineman 3 rerolls The Gobbos are Da Bloo Moonz (cos day's how often dey win - it also ties them in theme to my WHFB Night Gobbo army), and wear uniforms themed along the lines of the Geelong Cats (of the AFL) change strip: 2 Trolls, both with Strong Arm (cos I have absolutely no shame at all and use Troll Air at every possible opportunity) Bombardier (BOOM) 11 Gobbos 5 rerolls 2 Bribes 1 Shaman (OK, Da Roolz calls it a "Wizzud", but dat's not Greenskin) - (more BOOM) My questions are: * Which team roster makes you immediately go "WAAAGH! Dat'd be So Much Fun!"? * How could each team rooster be tweaked to up the fun factor/ be more effective? (Many thanks ... -------------------- "Toofy grinz all round, you lot, ole Brikkfist is back!"

I tend to go for a mix of both, personally. That way you get the beefiness fot eh orcs for blocking and the fleetiness of the gobbos for running up the pitch to score. The first army is a bit like a dwarf army all brute force and ignorance. no offence. Batter the opponent till he is dead and then score. A good and useful tactic but lacking finesse.

Its a shame there isnt any team progression allowed as thats what i most enjoy with playing a tournament. Given that I would pick the Orc team you've already outlined but perhaps drop the 2 linemen and replace them with gobbos? If you can give them catch then all the better.

Thanks for the replies, boyz. All offered opines are valued.
I don't want to mix my greenskins, so the options to slide in some gobbos to an Orc team isn't on. Unless it's to serve drinks & finger food at half time. I'm playing the Cyanide game at the moment (cos I can't get a game in RL here in Sydney for love or money right now) in order to gauge how enjoyable each team is to run, and although both are brilliant fun, I am very much leaning towards the absolute lunacy & utter fragility of the Gobbos at this point in time. Mind you, I am also so impossibly mercurial that that perspective could be the total opposite by the time any of you actually read this drivel! So I have a decision - Gobbos - but it is set in bleu monge rather than concrete right now. Decisions decisions decisions - still! -------------------- "Toofy grinz all round, you lot, ole Brikkfist is back!"

I think goblins are always the more 'fun' choice.
The orc team giving 4 tackle isn't the best idea IMO. You will have several games where you line up against teams that have no dodge and you have given them a 4 skill advantage over you. Guard would have been a better option. But since you are going goblins that is all moot. Best of luck to you, hope you get that stunty cup. -------------------- X-Painting

round of applause. Well made decision. You are always going to have fun with a goblin team. The two trolls give you lots of pulpability, so your opponent could still be smeared all over the pitch along with any blatantly biased referee who gets too close.

Thank you again for the later input.
What was set earlier in blue monge has been upgraded to set in cold porridge after my latest trial game with Da Bloo Moonz. I played a 'generic' undead team, and he won the toss & elected to receive. In his first move, both of my Trolls were knocked out, and stayed that way till one of them made a token reapearance for the kickoff in the bottom of the 16th (after a late TD). This meant that I did not get to call a single play for either of them - so much for Troll Air!!! My secret weapons players all got knocked out before having any significant impact (wasting my Bribes), so I played out the game with basic Gobbos. And won 2-0. It was exilerating end to end stuff, with one of my drives being stuffed three squares from the end zone, and my final TD coming from a defensive recovery/ dodge/ pass play commencing with my player's back to his defensive end zone. It gave me lots of laughs, and stunty/ dodge is a combination to be cherished. I think we're set! -------------------- "Toofy grinz all round, you lot, ole Brikkfist is back!"

Im sure I use to field 3 trolls in my gobbo team (must've been the 2 you're allowed + the star player) but that was my line of scrimage sorted so the rest of the little fellas had free run of the pitch. Hard to find more fun than running a goblin team in BB. Also as your tounry doesnt have injuries running over you wont end up with half your team dead before the semi finals.

You can run Ripper Bolgrot (the 'star' Troll) + two 'normal' Trolls, but as Ripper costs 270k it's hardly a cost effective option in a starting team. The only way I could afford him would be to drop the Wizard & my two bribes (I have 20k stashed in a kitty - poor kitty - Gobbos do hide their spare cash in the strangest places), so you have given me some serious food for thought. Any loss of the bribes are no issue as I am only running one secret weapon & it's hardly a core elephant of my stragedy, but the wizard's lightning spell is a td saver. OTOH, Ripper would be a lot of fun.
More decisions, decisions, decisions ..... You are right about the advantages of a resurrection tourney though. Being able to basically play with no sense of self preservation and paying no heed to the consequences of any dangerously rash actions really helps Gobbos. Mind you, I'm using that mindset in a league at the moment and they seem to be doing ok there too. -------------------- "Toofy grinz all round, you lot, ole Brikkfist is back!"

Rules are the current standard ones from the GW website but the tourny has a few specifics, follow the link in the original post for info.
I always had a lot of fun with gobbos but found 1 bad game could literally destroy the team (on more than one occasion -------------------- "When the pin is removed, Mr Grenade is not your friend!"
