Wow, nice stuff! I'd love to see a board covered with this sort of thing. IMO I'm seeing more and more games without enough terrain, and what I do see tends to be the same ruins over and over... 8e Fantasy is actually encouraging more varied terrain, but it can be a bit odd playing 40k with Fantasy buildings, etc.

WOW (second)!
I also started collecting stuff for jungle terrain, suck as walnuts and chestnuts (spiky one) shells, some plastic plants and real too. What do You use as small bases? I picked 40 and 60 mm metal washers (I also have magnet foil In overall I would be proud to have such ammount of plants. Any chance mixed group shots, please? Maybe with some proppa models? -------------------- 6th edition army test: Can You shoot back at triple Heldrake, quad Scythe list? Moldmaking tutorial [part 1, rest to follow] |

That's fantastic. Are you going to paint the the floral things or are they going to stay as they are? If so most of them look pretty good, but some of them (the roses for example) don't sem to fit too good. I think it will be even more obvious, when you put some miniatures next to it. My mother used to work with that kind of flowers and I'd say if you spray or airbrush them befor assembling will improve the look - but that's a lot of work I know. Beside that it's really great I might loot the idea

Kudos for different vegetation! I did something similar a few years ago but no where near the volume you've done. It's amazing waht you can do with a couple a bucks and just looking at the floral section (especially end of season!) of your local craft store. Flip a few things around, tear apart and recombine into new combos and they look really, really good.
I third the request for a board setup shot with a few models for scale. Fantastic job! -------------------- |

Very nice. What kind of world is that? I guess from the colours it's a dark, murky and creepy place, wet with lots of foilage. Ideal place to fight against whoever! I wish you a lot of joy with yer trees and bushez!

@Bludger: I envisioned it as a world far from its parent star; a murky, benighted swamp of calcified roots and predatory fungus. The event is on the 21st, so my photographer will get some "action shots" of the terrain during games. I'll have those shots up by the beginning of December. What I have here is just a sample of what I've made. In the past 30 days or so I've produced more than 100 individual pieces and I still have more than 40 pieces in progress and at least a dozen more in planning.
@jerrythebellybuttonelf: they will all stay as they are. I realize that the roses, etc. look a little weird, but it's way too much trouble right now to go back and change all of that. I might go back later and touch them up with some vibrant orange or something like that, but for now I am concentrating on quantity. @MaddaMek: The bases are wooden cut-outs from AC Moore or Michaels (or any craft store really). They're like 29 cents each and hold paint, hot glue, elmers, air-drying clay, etc. really well. Plus they are light weight and stable. I also use large fantasy bases for the individual trees and plan to use blu-tac when it's game-time to make sure these pieces don't fall over every time my big, clumsy armed players sweep their hands across the table moving their models. @kaomera: I agree that most tables don't have enough terrain on them. I think too many people just want to play on an open field so they can shoot the crap out of their opponent with no obstacles, but real world battles aren't fought over open terrain (except maybe the desert battles of WW2, but even they had hills, dunes, and other mitigating factors to contend with like dust storms, grit clogging gear, heat, and low fuel that 40k doesn't address). Most battles are over an important feature or are fought where one side has laid a trap for their opponents - like a dense jungle. -------------------- My semi-regular Badmoon/Dethskullz Army blog

Most battles are over an important feature or are fought where one side has laid a trap for their opponents - like a dense jungle. Not to sidetrack things, but while I'm sure some just want more shooting, I've found that a lot of players (even ones who play assaulty armies - and even some bugs players!) prefer less terrain just because it makes the game simpler. You don't need to decide if you want to risk a test or not, don't need to worry as much about LoS, etc... ObOT: I like the tank traps, can't wait to see them finished. -------------------- First off: Keep yer go-fasta peddle mashed! Then, if you'se gots mor ammo, keep up da dakka! I like all of it except the roses. They just look too much like roses lol. The rest has an awesome alien look to them. The grapes could use some paint to make them look more alien. You could airbrush them in batches them use old toothbrush to flick specks of bright colors onto them.
-------------------- here's why my orks are blue. they have an intense hatred of historical recording of any kind which results in none of them knowing why they're blue. because of this, anytime anyone questions the origin of their skintone they waste no time adding the inquirer's head to their bosspole. no one will ever know why these orks are blue, as merely asking about it is a death wish. in the end there will be only 3 types of people left, the blue orks, those who don't want to know the history of the blue skin, and the dead.

Sorry if this was already explained, maybe I missed it, but could you do a tutorial on making these awesome pieces? I especially like the blue ones with the large trunks. It's so refreshing to see people making flora for aliens worlds instead of using the same old ruins. I'll make a ton of these for the LGS if you do a tutorial.

I absolutely love that Terrain can be just about anything on an alien world.
One can imagine all the dangers and beauties of these exotic plants. I would love to see more tutorials on these. -------------------- Website: www.Spectrumofwar.com

Wow, I imagine this is what it must be like to have an acid trip while trapped in the crafts section of a flower store.
Awesome, nightmarish terrain. |

I agree strongly about the exotic plant life. Invokes alien worlds... and it need not be creepy-dark, either. It could just as easily be a panzee Maiden World or some obscenely bright Slanneshi/Tzeentch Chaos planet.
What did you use for the tree trunks? I like the melty look. Maybe hot glue? What diameter dowel did you use for the bamboo? I was going with wooden skewers, but they seem a little too thin. Also, the Brown Jungle foliage is perfect for some things I have in mind - what did you use? Like Maxime, I'd love a tutorial. Warboss Gorhack |
