Well its been over 15 years since I last rolled the dice but earlier this year in a fit of nostalger I bought AOBR, loved the plastic figures and decided to rebuild my Ork army. Always been into modelling and converting so I fell in love with the Orks way back in the Rouge Trader days and as you'll know, once you get green in your veins you'll never be the same again
I'm well impressed with the current GW plastic kits, they go together well and are so interchangable its an ork players dream. They look so good i've left most of mine as the come out of the box and top of my list is the Trukk. It just so useful and full of extra gubbins i couldnt resist getting a few. They'll be just the thing for my Evil Sun's / Deff Skulls army hooning around the table top. But being a bit of a speed freak I cant help feeling dissapointed that the war buggy still looks a bit well... pants. Its always been a bit on the lardy side for my tastes, too heavily armoured and nothing like the fast attack vehicle it should be. Its overdue a makeover... So with that in mind I was looking at the Trukk chassis and thinking, if i chop off the rear axle, move the front wheels forward and loose their suspension, make it mid engined (the Stig would be so proud), move the driver to the front and recline him, move the rear gunner to the very back above the rear axle, get an idea of movement and speed to the model by having the front wheels steering and the whole vehicle leaning on the suspension, add the trukk roll bars... i got this. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So what do you think? The pics dont really show how its leaning away from the curve. Thats about as far as I can go just using the parts in the Trukk kit. I'll be raiding the bitz box and some plasticard to box in the driver and a bit of armour at the rear, exhausts, wiring, guns, icons, spiky bitz etc. Im pretty happy with how its looking so far, much faster than the offical buggy. All your C&S are well come. If anyones interested i'll be doing another once this ones finished so I could publish a step by step guide. I very like Your work. I wonder if with additional wheels (or by making trikes) You could make second out of one box. That would be blast...

Thanks for the comments guys. Ukpro you're spot on there mate, I was thinking of those special forces buggys used in the 1991 Gulf war. If you're interested here's a bigger one i made earlier : http://www.crispyandtherocketman.com/id3.html
Quick WIP picture update ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry for the fuzzy pics, only had my mobile to hand. Dont think theres much more else to add, just some rivets and battle damage. I dont want it looking too over crowded. Let me know what you think. Maddamek, yeah I was thinking i'd do a 2nd buggy like this one and then with the left over axles, wheels and 2 lots of trukk kit bits I'd make up a 3rd buggy which will hopefully look a bit more like this... ![]() Hoorah! -------------------- "When the pin is removed, Mr Grenade is not your friend!"

If the new buggy models look anything like this, I'm sure a lot of Ork players are going to be very happy.

Not seen those before, look like pretty cool designs although the 2nd engine at the front looks a little out of place IMO.
Right rivets are done and I think all it needs now is a big clan glyph on the bonnet but Im gonna leave that until I'm 100% what these boyz are going to be. Slighty better pics... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As aways C&S are welcome, its good to get someone else's opinion. Looking good and having a look round your site I liked your short air portable Landy from MK btw - although your experiences with the heat on the journey back remind me of taking a short wheelbased mkI shogan round Cyprus where I managed to burn my foot when we rolled the canvas top down - my right foot was the only bit of me not slavered in factor 40 that was exposed too and I hadn't noticed the little bit of light hitting my foot - of course once you stop moving and the breeze round your feet stops it was ow ow ow ..
I hear from a friend who used to run Landies all the time that they are a bit of a pig when it comes to maintenance? Better off with a nice Japanese 4x4 methinks at least that is what the Auzies seem to think.. Anyhow what about using a Jackal as the basis for the next one?? ![]() Or is that a little too big for a War Buggy? |

Those are built in Devonport Dockyard (Hence the DML - Devonport Management Ltd - badge on the side), less than a mile from where I live, but I've never seen one in the flesh, as it were

i live in braunton, between chivenor military base (where they keep them) and the braunton burrows (where they use them), so i see them roll through quite regularly.
i'd probably say they're too big for a warbuggy (though in RL a standard tank would be the size of a baneblade, a 'russ would be slightly shorter than one of these... so it's debatable). and the buggy you've made is awesome. i keep meaning to make some dragster-esque buggies, these have inspired me! now to just finish the 110 orks i'm going to paint before i make anything else! -------------------- |

Yeah i'd agree the Jackal is probably a bit too large for a buggy but open up the back and it could make a good base for a trukk. Its nice to see our troops finally getting some decent kit to use.
Funny you should mention about the 4x4's ukpro, the Landie was my brothers that I helped him do up. He sold it to a mate some years ago but recently bought a little Suzuki SJ413 which we're currenlty sorting out and will be painted proper orky green. He's always wanted a WW2 Willis Jeep but they'er mucho £££ so he's compromised and planning to add markings to the zook, big star on the bonnet and a jerry can on the tailgate. No weapon mounts on this one though! As you can tell from our website we're both into our military models and R/C toys so my ork vehicles will be influenced by that. I want to try basing a buggy on a WW2 willis gun jeep like the SAS used in the desert, only with larger chunky ork tyres. Fast with loads of dakka, cant get more orky than that! -------------------- "When the pin is removed, Mr Grenade is not your friend!"

Love the buggy conversion, it has me wanting to go buy another Trukk just to tinker away with it. Great idea. Perhaps the spare axle would be good got fuel tank for burna?

Pretty cool buggy you got there, may have to loot the idea for that
The front looks a bit plain, a glyph like you said would help but I can't help but feel that the sides need something to. Other than that it's looking good. -------------------- I like to loot it loot it

I think Krispy is on the right track with the Buggy, it should be light and fast, the sort of thing you'd fly over dunes with and look like something out of mad max to be good and Orky. The GW one isnt stripped down enough for my liking and some of the others here look more like armoured cars/trucks rather than Buggy's but hey i am a speed freak lover so i am sure the more goffy guys will like the others better, each to his own.

i'd probably say they're too big for a warbuggy (though in RL a standard tank would be the size of a baneblade, a 'russ would be slightly shorter than one of these... so it's debatable). Actually a modern MBT (Chally 2, Abrams, etc.) is generally less than 9 foot tall, about the same height as a terminator. This makes a Russ preposterously enormous, probably around 20 foot high. That said, GW minis tend to be in what they call 'heroic scale', though the vehicles would still be enormous without it. On topic, I initially thought you were intentionally emulating the style of buggies from the IA8 book. Seems you both had the same great idea, beach buggies are a good platform for Orks. Cheap, simple, rugged and very Mad Max. -------------------- |

Hotrodding truck buggies you say batman? i think I might have an image or two of that somewhere ![]() but your buggy reminds me more of this image I saw when making it ![]() Top marks for Proppa-ness shade -------------------- Of course all my topics are pic heavy, you know why? because people don't want to open 12 hyperlinks a page! it stands to reason

Hmmm, lowrider hot rod buggy / trukks. Now thats an idea I like. Might have to start moving in that direction with the next one. That last pic Shadow just needs a hatch in the roof with a huge shoota and it'd be spot on job done. Right I need another trukk kit!
