well, in an attempt to clear my backlog of minis, I decided to paint one unit of minis a month. I'm not promising anything amazing, but a tabletop unit ready to krump. I'll add each one here and hopefully not only will my painting improve but this may motivate me a bit more too. biggrin2.gif

JANUARY

last months threat was tankbustas, and only just got the camera back to take decent pics. so here we go...

Already noticing areas I need to touch up on, and need something to fill the gap on that bosspole.

I the bosspole meant to be a rokkit? because honestly it doesn't look too great from where i'm standing, no offence intended.
I think a traditional ork glyph would look better.

Also I like the idea of strapping stikkbombz to a stick for the tank-hamma but the stikkbomb-chukka kinda looks a bit silly there if you ask me.

Another also; Senior codex says that the nobz PK replaces his rokkit launcha.

And another thing; I like the mask on the nob as it's kinda reminiscent(sp?) of the old tankbustaz masks.

The painting is pretty groovy too, I think you've got a good leather colour going on there.

thanks for the comments, yeah the mask was meant to look like the old ones. The rokkit is on the nob because A) it looks a bit orky and B) I can field in either configuration.
The bosspole was meant to be a rokkit, but didnt turn out as well as I hoped. the red looks better IRL, but the trakks behind it look awful to be frank.

tankhammers - hard to make a decent version, and atleast theres rokkits on both as well as the stikkbombs. I was after something that looked like it could go bang, and well the stikkbomb chucka looked a me funny.

again thanks, this month I'm painting up lootas.

FEBRUARY

just finished some lootas, again, tabletop standard, but I'm more interested on how the unit looks together. I have 10 lootas, 8 from the box, 1 bodgejob to look like a normal loota and one boy kitted out with lots of dakka.

blue was regal blue basecoat, enchanted blue heavy drybrush, asurmen blue wash. then glyphs were picked out with enchanted blue. to keep a uniform looks the metals were washed with asurmen blue. onto the pics:

jumble of guns for that classic loota look.

next month will either be burna boys or AOBR nobs.

Can you smell that? an oily petrolley smell? The burna boyz are closing in!!!

MARCH

It's that time of month again, although very early this month. I got 8 rootin tootin burna boys to go a-flaming, so without any further ado,
Mob shot:

da burny vetruns:

da burny yoofs:

The heads from the burna boy box are very nice. so nice infact, I wanted to keep some for my other orks! thats why there's a yoof/vetrun divide. The one with the microart head is the leader, because he looks cool.
I decided to tool the lads up, with shoulder pads and other accessories. If your making burna boyz, I strongly recommend shoulder pads as the bulk up the model and make it look good.

They were all given a heavy wash of hawk turqoise, and it looks good, although makes my army look like no good deffskulls. (supposed to be goffs.)

One on the left is the leader, and has a stikkbomb incase they need to activate "plan B".

C&C welcome on any and all the models in this thread. next month, some boyz, scratched kans and/or AOBR nobs.

How did you get the bluish tint on the Lootas? And the greenish for the Burnas?

the lootas is a plain old asurmen blue on all the metals. It sort of ties the model together. the burnas were done with thin hawk turqoise, applied all over the metal and then dabbed off with toilet paper. I liked the waythe turqoise turned out, and it was an incredibly easy way to paint those visors.

sorry for the bad pics.

an irregular update, but I got hit by the grot painting bug. Halfway through my real entry, but got some snotlings off grishgrub so I decided To make a bad @ss snotling to scare the beakies.
I call him: dave da 'arvester of souls. As to why he sacares beakie commandes, lets just say snotlings dont normally come with 60mm bases.

And to avoid finishing a threat so early, I came up with a new system. I have two or more "possible threats" with a contrasting bonus threat on it. I aim for both, then on the first of each month, I roll off to see who wins. complex, but worth it for the suspense. (god I need a GF!!!)

Another thing I find useful is to make a list of all the models in the army I'm currently collecting, then cross one way when I assemble them, then cross other way and box when I'm done. makes a nice visual checklist.

Very organized way of doing things, frankly I just stick everything together, get the paint out, and hope nothing survives through the mad painting spree.

dave da 'arvester of souls is begging for some custom rules though I must say.

It all seems very organized, but below that is my workstation, which is a rabble of different squads, armies, paints, moddeling tools, just a mess basically. The whole card thing just gives me more incentive to paint, and quite a nice way to remind myself of what to do. "put that runtherd down!!! you've got 30 slugga boyz who need their leathers done!"

dave? His psychic field makes me roll more sixes. he's just on the base of a k... THWACK. sorry, warboss' top sekret project.

Think that I might also have to siggy the grape on a stick proxy...

got it from some issue of white dwarf. A guy was painting 100 blood angels and crossed them off against a photocopy of the apocalypse book.

I saw it and thought that it suited my mindset for painting, although 2/3 units I've painted recently aren't even on my list.

well, 40 days later, and look what goodies I've brought home!!

APRIL

These AOBR nobs have been in my collection since I first started, and seeing as they're "nobles", the ruling cast, I thought a bit of extra effort was in order.

I started by doing the odd detail here and there, which didnt work, so I left them for ages. this month I went back, and to tie the unit together they have a purple theme, but also everything was washed alot, so they are fairly dark.
MOB SHOT:

some have hair squigs, this one with a bit of a beard;

and "puck".

this one has an extended choppa, so I can count it as a big choppa.

I failed my threat (paint these+30 boyz), but I did finish a unit, which was my resolution. The warboss meant to go with these looks awful, so I may scrap him for bitz and paint my other one.

off topic, anyone know a good name for a james bond themed ork?

Hi, I bring you the grot I painted for March's threat. It was entered into the competition, Didnt do too well, but at least it inspired me to do a bit of competitive painting, which I'll try to do on a nob in future for an old friend of mine.

I drew alot of inspiration from ein's stormboyz, on this model only the jet exhaust, but on the stormboyz i'm currently workingon (Da Deff Krumpany), they all have gas masks, chainblades, trying to give them sanguinary guard wings, etc etc.

On the james bond front I settled for Pierce Brosnork, but am still open to suggestions if anyone has any.

I have also finished the test models for this (and last!) month's threat. I'll try to get pics up soon.

test model for my slugga boyz done, so lets begin may's festivities.
MAY
Slugga barrel is being drilled right now. I'm not normally a fan of gore but I found a great paint called "tamiya clear red". It congeals like real blood so if done carefully, it can look really good.

I have also found out why my "goffs" look like weedy deffskulls. It's because enchanted blue contrats my dark painting style quite well, and therefore why my test model has a few patches of bloo.

WOOT! 3000 views, thanks guys.

as ever, feel free to comment and criticize my appalling painting skills.
