I have been a longtime ork player since second edition days. Orks have been one of the FEW lines where the some of the models from 2.5edition (gorkamorka) are still viable, clean looking and well sculpted. So instead of retiring old looking models, our armies keep growing!!! WAAAAAAAAAAGH!
I would make a new army every year for GT/RTT season and play it out and usually sell it at the end of the season. But I always kept my orks. So I have 4 3rd/4th edition ork armies about 2000 points each that need to fit into the new force org and codex. I attached them below: * Waaaagh 'az-ard: My original 3rd edition orks when the new plastics were released. Generic orks that quickly became speedfreeks due to my gorkamorka trukks. *Ghazghkull and crew: I was given a full nob squad to paint up for a local GW campaign part of Armageddon. *Da Stompa Klan of Armageddon: This was a dred-bash army based on the stompaz int he Armageddon codex *Waaagh Snortdakka: Feral orks! Besides nobs with burnaz, it had 180 boys on foot. All metal savage orks from fantasy. *Waaagh Grimdakka: A Dethskull army. I PURPOSFULLY TOOK all the silly and bad units of 4th edition. Cyborks, Flash gitz, Lootas, looted rhinos. A Shooty army before shooty orks were viable. It did pretty well simply because no one knew what any of those units did. -------------------- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Check out all my orks!: Waaagh 'Az-ard =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- |

So After reading the codex and gathering up my boyz, my bitz and some modeling and updating, you can see what I ended up with. I have decided to update the whoooooooooole thing to my dethskulls paint job and have it all led under Boss 'az-ard... Grimdakka is now in semi-retirement as a new flash-git.

The first thing I decided to do was destroy my nob bikers and mix-match the parts with the new bike kit for a bike squad to go with my new biker warboss. Also, I am updating my trukks and tanks to dethskulls! This at least gives me one legal HQ and I could start playing a small speedfreek army of painted models.
*Old Speedfreek Looted basilisk upgraded to a lootwagon with 'ard top and Boomgun! *Gorkamorka trukk repainted in 'bloo'. I am working on a magnetic weapon system for all trukks and walkers so I can interchange easily. *Bikers & Warboss on Bike WIPs *Group shot of painted models. Some from the old army, some freshly re-painted (like the dreds) When they are finished, I will take good pictures of each of the finished units. They are all kinda 90ish% done until I do some finishing touches like water decals and such. *Note, vehicles are NON-WEATHERED. I plan to ork them all up at once when they are all done. Until then, they are glow 2nd edition cartoon-wagons.

We have been blessed with an army athstetic that hasn't changed in 3 editions!!! So the figures pile up and GW keeps releasing more and getting my monyez!
Even my gorkamorka plastic torso fit with the extra shoota arms and heads of the 3rd edition boyz box! And we all know while we get 4 lootaz, we have piles of torso for burnas too! Anywho, I found some more models.... My old battlewagon and a MISB landraider! Back in the day I would do table-top playable painting for people and they would give me all sorts of models for my armies. But my old battlewagon was made days after the land raider kit's release and is too big and too flimsey to exist. And too many guns and not the right guns... Check out the DAKKAWAGON one last time before he dun got scrapped for parts! (2 tw bg shootas, 5 bolt on big shootas) And see him re-born as a Battlewagon!!! Smaller, more compact and sturdy. Going to magnetize the weapons and deffrolla!!! I am also going to design a removeable 'ard top. And there is a spot up front for the killkanon or big gun.

Damn you sir! You tallented swine be off with you
In all seriousness I an loving the work. I cant believe that you are essentially making two. I absolutely love the speech bubbles that is an awesome touch to the pics. Critique wise I would say that the front bit comes out a touch too much but that is only personal gubbins due to the fact that I have trouble getting my models from A to B without breaking them so I build compact. I also wouldnt have the two big armour plates on the right and left the same size as it is a bit too symetrical and looks less like some mek has just bashed some pannels and welded them on because fingy there looks un stirdy. To be honest very minor nit picks. Keep up the good work. -------------------- Current projects:

To be honest very minor nit picks. Keep up the good work. I see other people's stuff that make me feel the same way about my doo-doo models. I think we always see the flaws in our own work. Thanks for the comments. I kind agree with the 'sticky-out' area but I needed 2 things, a place to attach a deffroller and a place to put a killkannon. If I wasn't going for the forward-mounted kill kannon I would have shrunk it up to just be the landraider hull. I probably could have shrunk it about an inch or so now that all is said and done. I am not sure if I will crack this dude apart and shorten it but maybe on the next one. I want to draw up templates so people can do what I did. It was not that hard to do. And I agree with the giant 'gubbins' plates too as they are massive and silly. They are in no way done. Most of it is for structure and will be cleaned up for gubbinz and plating. 'Transporting' was my main issue with my old BW design, so this one is being designed to be as hard as a rock. This thing is solid as a landraider kit and using really thick card with good building. So it is basically transporting a brick. The deffrolla and guns will all be magnetized and I don't plan on putting lots of protruding bitz on it. I want it to look looted more than a rolling building on wheels. I also wanted it to look similar to the FW BW. If I knew of a good way to draw 'blooprints', I would if anyone is interested in trying it out. I am not sure how best to make a documentation opposed to simply 'drawing' it out and putting measurements on it.

So during the Waaagh downtime, I got a lot done. With all the magnetic carnifexes that have been spawned recently I thought, 'Why not my stuff?'
Sooooooooooooo my goal: *Magnetic weapon posts on all my trukks, lootwagons and battlewagons *Magnetic shooty weapons on all dredz and Kans *Magnetic buggies and Kopters That leaves 3 classes of weapons: *Big shootaz and Rokkits for Driving vehicles *Big shootas, Rokkits, KMB, grotzooka and skorchas for walkers *TL big shootas, TL rokkits for buggies I am attempting to figure out if I can design a rokkit and big shoota that will look equally well on a vehicle and a walker but I am not totally there yet. ALSO! I made grotzookas and a killkannon. They are made out of water flow restricters found in the ice-maker section of your hardware store. Grotzookas are basically a kannon with crap shoved in the end by a grot so I put all sorts of bitz in it and a grot on it loading. Killkannon is still WIP. I need to make some crew and add some more bitz. Here are some pictures!

I didn't just model stuff, I painted too!
Check out my painting table! 40-some orks 95% done! Also I took a drill to my dredz and didn't harm them hardly at all, just a few touch ups. Next on the painting table: (I paint in batches of 30 usually) *Trukk drivers *Tankhammerers *Slavers *Squighounds/Bombsquigs *Nobs! Next on the modeling bench: *Grot oilers/Grot riggers (In stead of gluing little greed things to all my vehicles I plan to base them and set them on the base of a walker or the back of a trukk. I simply don't like the look of them on vehicles and they are not 'manditory' warear anymore so I want the flexibility of using them or not.) *Lootaz: As I find imperial weapons, I model up more lootaz. I am going to make as many as I can out of spare bitz. *battlewagon: More decoration and bitz until it is proppa!

I am going to make a removable 'ard top since I plan to run the killkannon tank with a roof and the deffrolla cheap BW without for shooting. Customizing the walkers was pretty easy. Get a 1/4th" drill bit and 1/4th earth magnets from the craft store and Drill a hole in the side! I filled it with green stuff and super glue and shoved the magnet in. Bam! instant weapon mount. For ork walkers it is almost a must as we have so many possible weapons. Not to mention it makes life easier for transport and weapon destroyed. I even magnetized my basilisk's cannon.

The grotzookas are very simple but very effective, with your paint job they will look a little less bolted on and really add character to the Kans. I like it. Weapon mounts are a bit standard size and dull (hey they are still a good idea and well executed) could do with a bit of personalising or making them a bit less production line.
Good job -------------------- Current projects:

The grotzookas look good. Balanced front ot back and large-bore for stuffing full of random stuff. Good find there and good execution of the idea.

Oh, so THAT's what Grotzookaz look like.
Love the paint job on that Basilisk Russ thing. Only Orks can get away with something that gaudy and bright. -------------------- |

Oh, so THAT's what Grotzookaz look like. Love the paint job on that Basilisk Russ thing. Only Orks can get away with something that gaudy and bright. The Blue/yellow/white was to mimic Ultramarines as the original army I have my original models from who I am keeping the paint job were ultramarine lootaz. But I agree it is very 2nd edition. I like my orks a bit glowy. I added the flames to mark red paint job since my formerly all foot-sloggin lootaz are getting rides. I am going to attempt to wash and weather the vehicles, I just need a good tutorial and technique that I can do without runing the paintjob (as sometimes I have washed and it looks like I spilled a soda on it) I painted up a test KAN and some weapons and they passed so I might do the other 5 tonight. I also need to model up about 20 grot meks for oilers and riggers. I have 60 grots for herds, 12 for ammo grots and about 20 for big gunz. (and about 80 for my feral ork army) I think I could field 6 full units of grots by now. Also, I am going to strip and prime the next 30 boyz too. Only about 250 to go!

A Kan got painted with his Mek buddy with a KMB... Also a LOOTA mek!!! What weapon should I give him? And yes I know loota meks are the most worthless unit ever! He may hang out on my lootwagons as decoration.
Look who got on my painting table? The Flash gitz bought their way to the front of the line! I have a full squad of Mega armor nobs, a full squad of Cybork nobs with Choppas and I will have 10 plastic nobs really soon so I took the old metal nobs from my speed freek army I didn't care for (kept 4 of them) and turn them and some unassembled parts into Flash gitz! I love them. I had a surprising number of shoota and slugga arms. All from my days when I could pick my own bitz at GWHQ in glen burnie and pay for bits by weight!!! So I thought giving them all two-hands of shooty deth would be great! Also I needed some tankhammerers and nobz with powerklaws for my existing tankbustaz so here we go. Those are fantasy standard pole arms. Works great. And random slavers. I just like the models. Fantqasy spearman, rock lobba slaver, classic slaver, Wortszagga and so on.

I like the idea of snazzguns being dual wield pistols,
I might have to loot that! the power claw arm on the left tankbusta nob is seriously nice as well. Good job mate! |

I know it isn't modeling or painting, but I took some time out from my modeling chores to make a proppa site for my boyz. It seems so many ork players have sites for their waaaaaaaghs!
http://www.nickkelsch.com/orks/default.aspx C&C appreciated. I am not a graphic designer but it will do the job! And I hopefully will have a lot of updates for Monday! I am going to try to build a photo-light box, I found a simple tutorial!
