Your painting isn't bad, though it might be a bit sloppy. Your color choice is interesting, but if that please your eye who cares what everyone else thinks. Thoug I'd choose a darker blue, much closer to black. You might also want a less purple red to go over what is already down.
I suggest you buy some of the new washes, and even if all you do is hit the entire model with some devlan mud or some badab black you'll see a world of difference in the depth of the model. Of course, you'll also be pleased if you drill your shoota barrels and you clean off your mold lines. A little work in the beginning saves you a lot of work in the end. Otherwise you've got a solid start. You've got the colors in the places you want, and it is clear to see what your intended look is. 30 more boys and you'll probably be pumping out top shelf work. Practice makes perfect and all. -------------------- Change: It sends a good message to the children.

As a little side note. Your camera seems to be focusing on the carpet in the background on several of the shots. this link provides some good tips on photo taking, so that your models will be best descernable.

Also those 40mm bases have little holes you can cut out so that huge peg on the bottom of the Warboss and Meks feet can go in them.
Helps them be a little more stable and not look like that have weird growths on the bottoms of their feet |

You might want to give your Warboss more colours than just red and blue (though he must be one speedy and lucky ork

Seconded for washes, that'd especially bring that warboss up a treat. One layer of badab black then one of devlan mud would dull and tone that red nicely, I think. I get the feeling you're not undercoating your models before painting, is that the case?

yeah i agree with previous comments, washes would be good for you me thinks.
your choice of colours is interesting, obviously you play freebootaz so i were just wondering if you had any fluff to accompany your ladz, and an army name, something along the lines of gutzmeg's skarlet skammerz or something like that -------------------- what would happen if you crossed an ork with the cookie monster: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gdAKgJDahzw

About details such as boots, laces, plates, nails...etc: it's not difficult to do them.
Try this, obviously with a small brush and not muc paint: 1. paint the little details black 2. paint over the black with the chosen color, but it doesn't need to cover completely the black, just a trace on the more evident areas. This way you'll avoid doing stuff all over again cuz you massed the margins! hope you understood what i said and hope it helps! Like boots of a different color, brown laces on the back of the trousers... -------------------- modelling: my completely completed stuff

@ Metamorphazine, is it that obvious? Maybe i will invest in some washes and undercoat. Yes, it usually gives a pretty distinctive look. ![]() These are two models on my workbench at the moment, the one on the left was spray undercoated (and not sprayed or assembled by me, so if you gitz notice any of the moldlines, I don't want to hear it!), the one on the right I undercoated by watering down some Chaos Black a bit, to the point where it flows really smoothly but still goes on fairly opaque, and given the whole model two coats. Both methods work fine, but as you can see on the model on the right, the undercoat has started to wear off on his knees from where I've been handling it, you don't get that with any decent spray primer. Also, since the GW black is a satin black it's got more of a shine to it than the spray primer, which is a bit more matt. Up to you if that's a bad thing or not. Also, maybe try watering down your paints a touch if you're having trouble with how it flows onto the model from the brush. Don't be discouraged though, these are a good start to the greenskins! I'd dig out one of my earlier ones, but I think I'd rather die of shame first... I hope to see some more models from you soon! |

1 Inquisitor cotez and about a 5 man squad of grey knights, but they were not exactly taxing (except the inquisitor which i am really happy about) The warboss was the first model i ever painted and the rest of these orks followed.
