I think you've got some good ideas there, gm. It's very hard to figure out whether you've done a good job on a BFG sized build until you prime it (priming really pulls a model together), but it looks pretty good to me. You should put a small turret on your Escort/Rams though, just for good measure. And the one with the black-primed body has a crooked tail. And your chubbys could use some more guns. Overall it looks good. thumbs.gif

thxs for the C&C, i will straighten out the rams - i am running out of turret bits so i may need to sub in some anttenas and such -- i only had a few sprues to work with left over from the imperial and chaos stuff although i am considering "deconstructing" those to concentrate on orcs - this was more of a quick attempt to build a fleet in time for a club event that is a combined BFG/40K campaign -never actually played BFG so should be interesting?

i also plan to build a hulk (out of a pine bark chip) and 3-4 more ork cruisers (out of the old school HK missile boxes) - i can make two more rams if i can find the chaos heads and another battlecruiser if i want to spend the $8 on another tau tank gun sprue, but i am notoriously cheap thumbs.gif biggrin2.gif

i hope they look ok primed -- maybe i better paint before i build more....

Great work, I've been thinking of putting a fleet together myself and can't really afford the metal models so it's encouraging to see good-looking scratchbuilds.

The tau ion cannon is a great basis for the battlecruiser so I think I'll have to get a hold of a few.

Only things I can suggest would be some iron gobs on the attack/ram ships to make the faces look a bit less smooth. I also think the chubby ships could use a bit of finer detail on the body as most of the stuff you've added is quite chunky. If you could add some thin-plasticard banding then that'd look good thumbs.gif

Those chubby ones look MUCH better now. And I like the three new ones. You've managed to get them similar in shape and yet orkily different. I look forward to seeing the painted result.

That is an awesome scratchbuilt fleet. The new cruisers are awesome, and the groupshot looked great.

Nice work. For painting try the dirty water technique. Water down some black with water about 25/75. Then, dip you brush and paint over the entire ship. The dirty water should leave the black in the recesses and darken the entire coat of paint on the ship. Failing that, look at your local FLGS for soem armor wash. It does the same thing and is worth the cost.

Except for vehicles i usually hand prime -- i am going to try your mix as the base color and take a look. I was also going to try the rust formula i saw on the board - dark red brown, lighter dabbed red brown and then silver from the middles out of all the flat planes, then add color - i was just curious to see if it worked....as well for me as the guy who designed it biggrin2.gif

but if your method works it may save boatloads of time - so I'll try it first.

i thought i'd offer a tutorial on how to make krooza "blanks" which you can then modify

you'll need an old school HK missile box, one half of a tank barricade from the scenery sprue, one half of a las cannon, a bit of old school ram, and two small pieces of the chaos vehicle sprue - the decorative squares. Finally you need a bit of flat plastic for the tail piece - i use bitz from some speeders i cut up.

put the missile box together, sand the box smooth.

cut the tank sprue as shown - sand the cuts smooth - leave the front piece as is but you can cut the rear piece at any angle you want.

attach box to tank sprue bitz - leave some space in front so you can add the square plastic bitz at the same angle as the tank sprue

put first square on rear end of assembly - straight up and down -- it will form the base of the "T" for the tail fin

second square piece goes on an angle in the front - don't worry if there is a little space there

pin drill hole in bottom -- add base

cut lascannon just behind the muzzle guard as shown (you can use the holey piece as long as you eventually cover the hole with something or make it part of your design)

Glue it to your blank - i like to line up the straight edge and let the jagged edge hang over the side a bit

add your tail fin

now you are ready to add gubbins, guns, prows, etc. - the whole process of building the blank should only take about 10 minutes. thumbs.gif

oops forgot the last step - cut off two teeth from the tank ram and glue like a jaw to the front - sorry no pics.

Warbikers are a killy and funny group oh boyz. They commonly tend to shake for a good hour or two after gettin off their warbikes as suspension is unheard of in ork vehicles.

on the old 2nd and third edition imperial and beakie tanks you got a hunter killer missile - the box was the container for it on the tank - but you can actually do your own out of plastic card -- its just a box. otherwise find someone who's been inthe hobby for a while -- they should have plenty.
