First for those of you unfamiliar with the title, Bommerz over da Sulphur River is a simple & funny old GW game, where a squadron of Ork Bommerz has to take out some Imperial bridges in a canyon while the humies are trying desperately to stop them with AA and Thunderbolt interceptors!

I stumbled upon the free (thank you GW!) rules download yesterday (includes printable board sets and counters, 2MB):

http://www.specialis...ulpherRiver.pdf

The only thing I lacked was the minis: 2 Thunderbolts and 4 Bommerz :crybaby So I sat back and started scratchbuilding my own! It took yesterday evening and a bit of today to finish them off.

The Bommerz are made of plastic card, some bits and 1/72 bombs/fuel tanks of various origin :D
I wasn´t aiming for a particular plane style, but somehow they turned out to look alot like Russian Migs, Jaks and Il-2s don´t you think? These bommerz belong to the Skull Squadron indicated by the ork skull glyphs on their wings!

The T-bolts are made of twin Imperial mortars for the engines, the fuselage & cockpit are made from GW plastic frame remains and bolter ammo belts serve as tiny guns if you look closely. (I hope the mods forgive me posting humie stuff here... :) )

I think that I won´t mount the planes on a base, it´s simpler to handle them without one, besides they are less fragile. At the moment the planes are drying from priming...their paint job will continue in a few hours. Will post new pics once they are finished! Hope you like´em and why not build your own for a little game of Bommerz over da Sulphur River!? :D

Lookin good, but can we please have a barry shot? Are these Epic-Scale or 40K Scale? Great builds anyway!

A barry shot would be nice, but from the bits used they are clearly closer to epic scale. They look very awesome though.

If it only took him two days to make six 40K scale aircraft, this guy would be a god. ;)

For some odd reason, I love 'em. I hope you wouldn't mind if I looted some of these designs for potential 40K scalers...

I'll take a look at the rules too, looks like it might be some fun. I could probably rope some friends into playing it with me.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! :D Yes, indeed they are epic sized and about 3,5-4cm in length because the printed board game has movement fields that are about 3 cm in diameter. I will post a Barry shot tonight along with the finished painted models :yes @Mad Dok Doom Sure go ahead, you can loot all my bommer designs for 40k scale! :D

Cool stuff, Invivos. Free game, indeed... any excuse to do a bit of scratchbuilding is more like it. ;)

Hehe, you´re right! I know I should rather continue working on my CoD-Gargant (as my collegue, who is into 40k as well, tells me too every day)... :blush :D Shame on me!

Well I think I´ll be able to finish the paintjob in one hour today and will then continue building Barney :)

Great designs!

Consider them looted for my epic army. I only have 10 fightas and I would like to have 18

It would be really helpful if you showed a list of your some bits and 1/72 bombs/fuel tanks of various origin ;) Where did you get those from? Are those some sluggas there?

Very nice work!

I saw the battle over da sulfur river kit on ebay today and wondered how it worked. Have you test played anything at all? How does it work? Nice builds too :biggrin

@Grotfang Warstomp

No, I haven´t really playtested it yet, just had a quick read through the rules and tried the movement rules. First real test game will be this weekend :)

@phindar

Hehe ok, here you go:

The bodies of the MIG-17 style ones are made up from gunpods from this set. To be more precise it´s the second one from the top in the right chart. Dunno what it is called:

http://www.superbox....ods-p-3406.html

The bodies of the other planes are made up of MK-84 guided bombs (Hasegawa as well). Indeed you spotted some slugga parts as engines, the nose cannon on one plane is a cut off Imperial missile, cockpits are made from leftover plastic sprue cut and filed to represent cockpits. The half cylinders/bolted "collars" on the wings are from the BioToxinplant set.

____

So here are the pics now, I tried to mimick the paint style of the new FW bommerz. I think the contrast between the Bommerz and the T-Bolts is obvious even to people not familiar with 40k background. I think they turned out quite nice :D

Those look great. The paintjobs are even better than the builds. :thumbs I might have to add this idea to my mile long to-do list.
