Okay, It has been a while since I have posted on my warboss, but I wanted to make an update. I have been working on him steadily but before I layed my first layer of primer down I was not completely satisfied with the conversion that I had done since my last post, located here.
Today I wanted to post an update, without commiting threadcromancy Here is my warboss as it stands, I started painting from the ground up, so the base and the legs are done. Well, unless there is something suggested that needs to be addressed. My main issue at the moment are the colors to paint the cloak and the shirt that he is wearing. I was thinking of trying my hand at freehanding the blood axe logo (crossed axes w/ iron cross and an ork skull) but that has to wait until I finish the rest of the stuff. Do you think a dark red/crimson color would work for the cloak, and if so, would he also have a crimson shirt? Should I continue painting the camo pattern on his cloths? I thought was to have him as a Kommisar warboss, much like CourtesyGrot, as it is pretty clear that this project was inspired by his Hazhak model. He is a Blood Axe boss and has collected some souvenirs while Krumping around the galaxy; namely his legs and the space wolf helmet tied to his belt. Oh yes, this was also the first time I have really tried the black/boltgun weathering so I am not sure if I did it 'right' (meaning the right spots for ware'n'tear). At any rate, here are the pics! Here is the base he will stand on: ![]() Here are his legs mounted on the base: ![]() Here is a pick of the Space Wolf Helmet: ![]() Here is the unpainted, primered torso: ![]() And finally, a pick together with a Barry ork. ![]() Questions, comments, concerns, criticisms, and suggestions all welcomed Thanks, Greyfen -------------------- Greyfen

Very creative, and that boss is HUGE!
I'd say paint the cloak a crimson red and the torso a medium shade of brown. |

May I be the first to say that is a truly original and well conceived Warboss. You seem to have no problems with your painting style, free handing the blood axe logo would look impressive.
My thoughts on the color composition would be a muted grey and black torso with a red cape. -------------------- Purveyor of eclectic Ork Kommandos

I would say go for a lot of black. Black cape, black shirt, and black on the choppa. I dont know why you painted the sentinal legs like that i dont like them, but its your choice.
With the black, he has that sort of trenchcoat look about him. Its more menacing and stuff. Then, dar colours. Dark browns and reds. A Freehand bloodaxe symbol on the cape would look nice as well. Keep it dark and scary. You took something zany like sentinal legs and turned into something terrifying! -------------------- For da Greena Good!

Thanks for the replies guys! So far it sounds like I should stick with the dark red cloak/cape, with the Blood Axe clan symbol of course
Regarding the Power Claw arm, its pretty much all mechanical. Should I camo it up like the legs or paint it metal? Or, should I caution stripe the claw section? I see a lot of caution stripes, and I also see a lot of painted claws that match the armor... I think at this point the results from this Boss is going to determine how I paint my whole army. So I am probably going to keep asking for ideas and take my time on him. My guesstimate on completing the torso is 1.5 - 3 weeks once I am sure what I want to paint. I know, its slow. Fish'ead: I chose to paint the legs this way because the thought, at least originally, was that my boys will all be painted (or repainted) with a similar camo scheme so it was for army coherence. Also, I kinda figured I could work it into his background that the legs were taken from a sentinel that he was (in no particular order yet) fighting, got cut in half, and some how it was destroyed. Since sentinels usually run is squadrons of three I might make a 2 strong Killer Kan unit using armor plated up sentinels. with the same camo scheme... someday. Nazdreg: You are probably thinking of CourtesyGrot's Hazhak Ulf Hashak. CourtesyGrot helped me with part selection and the basics of the conversion which I ran with. Mine is quite similar to his. -------------------- Greyfen

Glad to see this in paint. Looks good. The orky camo is old school blood axe, and I like it.
Can't wait to see it finished. -------------------- http://orks.dylangould.com/

Ok, that makes sence. I just dont like the colour scheme.
I fell theirs a real need to unite the top and bottom of the model;' maby have this cammo scheme on the klaw and the choppa as well. -------------------- For da Greena Good!

here is how he could he could have gotten the legs: He was fighting the sentinal destroyed it and it fell on him crushing his legs and the dok used what was at hand. -------------------- Naz.

Ooo, crushed legs, I like that
Okay, I'll work the camo into the armor of the 'bionic' parts of the PK arm. Possibly on the shoulder pads as well. Thanks for the input and thoughts. -------------------- Greyfen

QUOTE(Kaptin Krumpa @ Jul 13 2007, 04:32 PM) May I be the first to say that is a truly original and well conceived Warboss. Greyfen got this idea for a boss from teh Hazhak boss that Courtesygrot made. It's awesome, but not original. Anyways, about time you started painting it- like you said, if you used the WIP thread it would be heavy necromancy. The sentinel legs are painted a popular guardsmen colour, it would go nicely with a red cape and bright green skin. I reckon it would be more Orky if you graffitied Ork glyphs and glued plasticard armor plated onto the sentinel legs- it will make it sturdy and possibly the plasticard will make it stronger, so your boss won't suffer the same fate as Courtesygrots one (dropped and pwn3d). Love the base too -------------------- Check this out its so funny!

Okay, I have been thinking about it while touching up the primer... I think I have the basics of what I want to do in my head aand will start the painting tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to post some pic's of blocked out colors in the next few days. So far this is what I am thinking, per your suggestions ofcourse
Steel Fist Mek Guy: Unfortunatly, at this point the legs are done except for touch-ups. However, the good news is that Hazhak took the plunge before I glued on the legs of this boss and I ran a pin though the axle that broke on his model. Also I have a pin running all the way though the piston on his lower leg so... hopefully this boss will not suffer that same fate. And if he does! I will probibly make a new one using penitent engine legs (since they are metal) Anyway, thank you everyone for your help I look forward to more suggestions as I post more WIP pics. -------------------- Greyfen

That boss is terrifying. He looks so fast!
If I came up against him I'd have to keep reminding myself that Orks can't get fleet. |

QUOTE(Steel Fist Mek Guy @ Jul 14 2007, 12:55 AM) Love the base too Steel Fist Mek Guy: I forgot to mention that the base I brought from 'back to base-ix' an austrailian based casting company which sells thought ebay. It is one of their 60mm slate bases that I added some extra dirt and the skull to. I also added a small amount of GS so the foot could look solidly planted. They have a great product and excellent customer service. I had actually planned on making some unique bases and casting them myself but after 40 someodd bases with poor results I decided to go an easier route The store can be found Here -------------------- Greyfen

for some reason i feel like he needs a steam engine on his back...But thats by far the scarriest boss i've seen to date, and you know thats a good thing.
To go with the paint scheme, red on the cloak, cammo the casing of the axe and klaw.I just have the urge to say that the fist on the shoulder should be white.I dont know why but its a great focal point to make it stand out.As for the checks, you could try to break up the cloak red with the bottom lining done in checks, like some Inquisitors have |

Checks along the bottom ofthe cloak... check!
I'll add that to the plans. Last night I started the base cote of the armor and the shirt. I paint one color at a time, usually, so once I have all of the grey's highlited I'll start the reds. I have a feeling this will go alot faster since I worked most of the technique out in the legs. -------------------- Greyfen

Just wanted to make an update, I have blocked in the light grey (astronomicon grey - foundation paints from GW). And I feel that the Dark grey is complete. The Dark Grey is Adeptus Battlegrey also a foundation paint with a chaos black shadow and a 1:1 battlegrey:codex grey highlight. I do not want to really take it any higher in highlight becuase it is virtually unseen with the way the boss is posed but I will probibly clean it up a little bit as I finish the other colors.
At this point I am going to shade the light grey with Codex and then work up a highlight with skull white. Once that is complete I can start the reds Not much to see in these pics but... here they are anyway. ![]() ![]() -------------------- Greyfen
