After participating in, and thoroughly enjoying, a few great competitions I thought I’d have a go at running a ‘build an ork building competition’.

Below is an outline of the rules and some suggested buildings. I’d welcome all comments and suggestions, indications of interest in participating and any more building types you can think of. cheers.gif

Ork Town Kompetition

Gaf-Naz has decided to set-up a new settlement and is looking for tenants!

The goal is to construct an on-line ork town with a building built by each competitor. I’ll then put all the entries into a PDF and onto a map and hopefully we can get it added to the Waaagh website.

Da Prize - Updated 11th March

The prize for the overall winner is Kr00zA'z Free Dagz Def Kopta!

I'll pay postage to the winner. thumbs.gif

There is also a small bonus prize that will be awarded at Gaf-Naz's discretion . winkingOrk.gif

Da Roolz - Updated 24th June

- Each entrant to build a named ork building (e.g. Gaf-Naz’s Grill).
- No maximum base dimensions, but please bare in mind playability and the overall look of Ork Town.
- Multiple entries and dioramas allowed & encouraged.
- Desert basing scheme encouraged for continuity, but no penalty for using another scheme.

- Competition starts March 1st (later entrants will be welcomed).
- Threads to be opened once construction complete, any time after April 1st and before August 15th.
- Threads to have “Ork Town Komp” in the thread title.
- WIP photos and turorials encouraged.
- PIP photos encouraged and can be posted during painting.
- Final painted photos to be posted in the same thread and the thread title amended with “Komplete”.
- Closing date for final painted photos in thread: September 15th.
- Winner to be announced: September 18th (ish).

Judging Kriteria

Construction (30%)
Overall design. Use of bits/materials. Quality of construction. Level of detailing.

NB: I will mark your builds on the state they were at when you open your thread. You can add/amend things after that but they will not affect your score.

Painting (30%)
Quality of paintjob. Choice of paint scheme.

NB: I will mark your paintjobs on the state they were at when you amend you thread title to "Komplete". You can add/amend things after that but they will not affect your score.

Thread (30%)
Quality of overall presentation. Quality of photographs – clarity and quantity. Explanation of build process. Explanation of painting process.

Bonus Points (10%)
Originality. Accompanying fluff. ‘Orkiness’ - judge’s discretionary bonus.

Do you need some 6th edition fortifications for your army, a new terrain piece or an 'armies on display' board?

Then build it, paint it, post it and move into "da orkiest town in da ooniverse", and have the chance of winning a prize!

Count me in! Orky terrain is great and proper.
I think the date is good, so that the currently running competitions will have ended.

Something that could be cool would be if everyone took a picture of their building in such a way so that they could all be photoshopped together to show the town in all its glory and rust.

Sounds VEEEEEERY interesting. I think the base dimensions may need to be more organic... meaning the firing range for example would need to be very loooong but not so wide. The race track would be pretty tricky too as it would be a complex measurement of square footage/meter..age...

I also didn't see:
A postal centre
Bazaar (saw merchant's store/market but thought that this would be less or a store front more of an open-air type environment)
Sports arena
Railhouse/train depot
OeTS (orks for the ethical treatment of squigs)
Motorpool
'umie slave camp
'Ulk crash site
Battleground/Memorial
Graveyard (if orks have them)
Sporing area... I am pulling this totally from my rear but I would imagine there is a concentrated area where orks are more prone to be spored than just totally at random... (would this be the fungus field... saw that but wasn't sure..)
Taxi dispatch
Bus station
Gang House (for Gorkers and Morkers to get all "West-Side Story")
Job Pole
Reaktur/Powwa Plant
Armoury/Foundry
Maybe something Feral-related?
EDIT: Barber shop?

If I hit anything you mentioned it was just a mistake, nothing more. I tried to double check these suggestions and please just treat them as that. I'm pretty interested in this kontest and will either have plenty of time or none at all very soon (job hunt's not going so well)

I think I'd still like the idea of an orky gas station. I bought a couple things a while back to make something of the sort but the idea never really took off.

Good gork! I think youve missed a vitally important place in any town; Where da 'ell are all da boyz gonna sleep?
You would have to have some sort of flats or something. Maybe they can all sleep in the hulk, but you at least have to say so.
((Ps, i am no good at modeling. Expecting stuff out of me will only make me sad. I can only offer sugestions...)

Sounds like a great idea.

What about a orky fort then, seems missing.

But can yer count me down for a defence building of some sort, I'd really like to do one of em, if not a fort. thumbs.gif

again smashing plan this.

Thanks for the response guys, I'm glad there's some interest. thumbs.gif

I'll edit the first post to include all the suggested buildings and a list of potential kompetitors. Don't worry, your name being on the list doesn't commit you to entering. biggrin2.gif

@ xzantrax - I was planning on photoshopping everyone's entries together. I may state that all entries have to have at least one complete build pic against a plain coloured background to make this easier. I was also thinking of dictating the base colour so they all match but I think this would stop some people entering as they would want a piece of scenery that matches their tables. Any thoughts welcome.

@ 4ton - thanks for all the suggestions. Most are excellent, but I'm not sure on the Post Office, Graveyard, Taxi Office and Bus Station. questionork.gif For the race track I was thinking just model the start/finish line (and/or pits/stands) and then use piles of tyres to represent the actual course. I'll have a think about the base size being restrictive - any thoughts welcome. And I'm open to konvincing that Orks post letters, bury their dead and take taxis/buses. winkingOrk.gif

@ Mordred, Morfang & Chockchan - all great ideas and all added to the list. thumbs.gif

@ Nargred - I think a fort would come under "ground defence position" as that covers everything from minefield up to fortress. Glad you're aboard. thumbs.gif

@ Ragnarock - sounds like a good base to build something orky on. thumbs.gif

@ Fishead - The orky hovel is where I imagine the orks sleeping, though if my plans come to fruition there'll be no sleeping in Ork Town! biggrin2.gif Why not enter, even if you're "no good at modellin". It could be fun and you could improve your modelling skills.

@ Ein - the gas station does sound like a great idea. This could be your chance to build it. winkingOrk.gif

Any more suggestions, building types and comments welcome. cheers.gif

I'm definitely in for this one. I'm not gonna be able to start till May (meaning keeping enthusiasm will be tough) but once that rolls around, I think I'd love this sort thing.

I think Fast Food places might be necessary (though I'm from the U.S, so maybe I'm a minority in that mindset).

My one question would have to be: are you looking solely at exterior modelling, or should we go all the way and model building interiors? I have no problem doing interiors, and think it'd be fun/a challenge, but I just thought that might be important to clarify. If you already answered that....sorry.

Nice thinking Gaf-Naz.

Greenstuff - I'm sure Nutzak will become a valued tenant of Ork Town. winkingOrk.gif

Stuart - I've added Fast Food Outlets. thumbs.gif Interior modelling is more than welcome, but not compulsory. If you don't fancy it then just whack a roof on-top. winkingOrk.gif

Ah, just in time for me needing to make some terrain! Great contest idea Gaf-Naz, count me in. I have a couple cursory and silly ideas for a training facility.

As far as having the same background colors, you can use Photoshop to replace those colors or make them what you want. If you need some help or a 'How To' I would be more than happy to.

I don't have a problem with multiple entries, it'll affect how I allocate building types to contestants, but I'm sure I can work out a fair way of doing it.
