QUOTE(Me not Weedy @ Jul 19 2005, 09:12 AM) See I don't see it this way. Time is money, but you know what? Not all time can be translated into $$$. For instance, no price could be put on the time I spend with my wife. None. THe same can be said of my hobby. Sure, I could save a lot of time buying all of my models and using them as stock, but a lot of the fun for me isn't playing. It is the modeling. Yeah, I agree modeling is fun...I like modeling too. But you're missing my point. If you're going to spend the time and effort why not make a truly unique creation? For, example...for all the time and money it would take me to do this project, I'd rather go out and buy one can and some resin casting stuff. Resin cast the main body, and then construct a bunch of cool looking custom appendages...less time, and it would yield much the same result...if I'm gonna sit there for hours cutting card and breathing glue fumes, it needs to be for something that is truly a unique work of Orky art...not just a facsimile of Game Workshops Kan design (which I've never been to keen on.) I'm not trying to bash Biv's project or anything, but it does seem like he's trying to re-invent the wheel. -------------------- Orks iz da best! Smash da rest!

Yup I guess I missed your point. You are indeed correct; if you are going to make something, make it yours and not the same as the GW ones.

I'm not trying to bash Biv's project or anything, but it does seem like he's trying to re-invent the wheel. Okay, I see your point. But this, and all of the other 101s, were not designed to be step-by-step bluprints. These are intended to be concept builders. How can I make a kan-like arm? How would you go about designing a body? Is there a way to make a convincing engine only using card? What about a rokkit launcher? Maybe someone will take this, redesign the body but keep the basics of the legs and arms. Maybe they like the body but think trakks would be better as legs. Maybe they have most of a kan and need a way to make the missing bits? Personnally, I'll say right now, that I have no plan to make any kans based on this design. What I intend to do is modify the body style and use the concepts here to make a four-legged walker dread. This is something I think anyone can now do with these designs as the basics. The other great reason for someone to actually build this is the skills you will learn. Your ability to use plasticard after completing a project like this will increase far more than just casual card work on tanks and such. Your ability to imagine practical shapes and turn those into working bits improves. Your skill with the knife, drill and glue. Even if you were making three kans, I imagine that the third kan would look nothing like the first one as you learn new skills and get new ideas. Regardless, take what you need from this and toss what you don't. -------------------- Step 1: Collect orks

Well said Biv. I was a little apprehensive at first when I say the blueprints were similar to the GW cans, but when looked at as a learning experience for the use of platicard and concptual design these 101s are great.
BTW any chance for a Power Klaw 101? -------------------- -YOINK!!!-

Is there anyway we could either tack this onto the existing pinned "How-To 101's", or get this pinned up there permanently?

I find that throwing some plasticard onto a sentinel works quite well for Killa Kanz:

No offence intended, but those "kans" look really, really chunky and unbalanced. I don't mean that in a good way either - they're just really awkward. They are positioned far too forward on their legs and the CC weapons look useless in their position. Switching the legs of the sentinals to bend the oposite direction (or in other words, turning the legs completely around on their sockets) Would overall help them have the required shape. Also remember that sentinals are much taller than normal Killa Kans, and that doesn't help much either.

Looking objectively, you have a point. They can join the end of my 'build queue' for a tear down and re-build.

Never! I accuse Grog of threadomancy most vile. You will be examined immediately by the Orkwizition. Resistance is futile.

Well considering I'm building kans and dreads right now.... It might be nice if I didn't have to envoke my dark powers to revive long dead threads in an attempt to get them rightfully pinned!

In the earlier poster's defence, there was a direct request for this info so I don't consider it true Threadmancy. Tutorials really don't apply. Likewise, I'd rather see a repeated bump of a "where do I get such and such material" treads then constant new ones.
